TMNT Turtles in Time is the only game I've seen that does this. You set it to super hard and it gives you the most continues.

Doom Eternal. No I don't want to get the "take 2 damage a shot" suit, I want to learn to beat this boss.
And I did, the Marauder is HELLA fun to fight.
I don't think I even came close to dying in the new dooms. They're not as mean with the level design as some of the assholes who worked on the OG.
What about the games that suggest to lower the difficulty? 🥲

Then there’s the Mega Drive game Alien Soldier that comes with two difficulties: ”Super Easy” and ”Super Hard”. The ”Super Easy” difficulty is actually quite difficult.
Ninja Gaiden Black will always be my favorite difficult game. I'll always remember how excited I was to unlock each new difficulty. To see what new enemies, that you've never seen in the previous modes, they are going to throw at you.
Metal Gear Solid 2: “European Extreme”
Watched my brother complete all MGS games under the hardest difficulty.
I think MGS4 was the hardest for him, under 5 hours, no continues, no health items, no kills or alerts on boss extreme difficulty.
He was a very angry teenager.
Quake 1 actually. Remake fixes it though.
