Even setting aside the possibility that she couldn't protest Jim Crow for some reason, what about Iraq? The Patriot Act? Not a big deal/not serious enough to protest?

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 35 points 2 days ago

Well, you see we were mad at the terrorists back then. There wasn't time for nuanced discussion or fancy demonstrations. We had to go out and buy things or the terrorists would have won

We could even get more recent than that. What about Palestine? The US doesn't need to send taxpayer money for the Zionist entity to keep committing atrocities there.

Given the sign's contents though, whichever war her "late veteran husband" was fighting in wasn't enough to protest either?

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

To be fair she is old enough that her husband might have fought the one justifiable conflict the US was ever involved in. But that also means he probably did warcrimes in Korea like my grandfather so yeah...

[–] Krem@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

unless the husband was like ten years older than her, he likely did war crimes in korea

unless the husband was like ten years older than her

Fairly likely in the 40s

[–] Krem@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago

on another note, i'm looking forward to the US very soon losing its spot as the global cultural superpower, and the west having to watch schlock chinese war movies about the war in korea where they are the heroes and the americans the villains

The Palestine observation is the most egregious thing about the whole 50501 thing, eh? I guess it's fine to go to these protests if there are no pro-Palestine ones in your area, but if there are pro-Palestine protests and you go to the 50501 ones then you're a lost cause.

I could have sworn this was from the first trump regime.

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 41 points 2 days ago

They do this every year. I guess it gets to enough eyes and people still post it. The three of us with memory longer than a game of thrones book see it and are like "hey look it's that same thing again!" And everyone tells us to shut up because someone who hasn't seen it will see it and change the whole world or whatever

It’s this same woman isn’t it? They look almost identical but says 92 on it. Even if it’s not the same person it is a very similar goal they are going for.

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 28 points 2 days ago

There's always a couple.

I am mostly unfoundedly guessing she has been to a 'protest', but was the reason the the 101st Airborne had to get involved.

Mostly an unfounded guess.

Not entirely.

Reminds me a lot of my grandma, who watches Bill Maher regularly, and got furious with me when I told her in 2019 that the best possible thing that could happen would be Trump dying of Covid... because the alternative would be a one term, ineffective Democrat, who wouldn't meaningfully address the growing fascist movement, nor the underlying conditions that fundamentally give rise to it.

... She asked me to digitally archive a bunch of family photos and records... and I found a bunch of her old diary pages and letters... where she was quite rascist.

The person seemingly most offended by this tweet is an estonian kpop/shitposter lol

[–] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

please please please americans learn to spot russian propaganda accounts that try to stop you from protesting

This is also funny given she's the one engaging in foreign interference from a former Soviet republic... all the Americans complaining about foreign interference probably think you're the propaganda account

People really out there letting maymays dictate their life, huh?

[–] procapra@lemm.ee 6 points 2 days ago

Yeah its certainly not a flex, but I'm still glad she's getting out and involved. I know the bar is in the ground, but it does show some kind of improvement.
