Funniest outcome: the Supreme Court rules that he's good to run for a third term, so the Democrats decide to run Obama (probably their best chance short of actually trying to help people) but the Supreme Court says "no you've served two terms already".

[–] D61@hexbear.net 40 points 3 days ago

SC says that its okay to run for a third term but adds a statute of limitations that says in inappropriate to wait too long between terms to run.

[–] QuillcrestFalconer@hexbear.net 22 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You can serve 3 terms but only if you didn't serve two consecutive terms

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 12 points 3 days ago

Brazil is kinda like that. Can serve any number of terms, but only two consecutives. Kinda meh, but we would be stuck with Bolsonaro if Lula couldn't run again.

Drone strikes will increase until morality improves

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 11 points 3 days ago

If he won or lost, I still think the funniest thing would have been for Biden to die on inauguration day

[–] Dimmer06@hexbear.net 56 points 3 days ago (2 children)

All he'll have to do is say he's not leaving the office after the 2028 election and Democrats will be in shambles.

[–] DengistDonnieDarko@hexbear.net 57 points 3 days ago (1 children)

ah, but you've forgotten the dems ultimate gambit, their 'Trump card', if you will,

I'd like to see ol' Donny boy wriggle his way out of THIS one! smuglord

Weird how there's a word for not normal that the democrats were using a lot to describe trumpers but then stopped using.. was it too rude

[–] Hatandwatch@hexbear.net 23 points 3 days ago

It'll cause so many processing errors for them. After all how do you combat something you can't vote against?

[–] Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net 54 points 3 days ago

My prediction of Donald Trump (R) vs George W. Bush (D) is turning more and more true.

[–] EnsignRedshirt@hexbear.net 57 points 3 days ago

People were wringing hands and clutching pearls about Trump destroying democracy and here he is actively talking about the next election.

[–] tactical_trans_karen@hexbear.net 67 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Run as VP for Vance, sacrifice him on the lawn of the white house.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 51 points 3 days ago (1 children)

sacrifice him on the lawn of the white house.

We sacrifice him by dropping a couch on him like a cartoon

[–] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 50 points 3 days ago (2 children)

It's how he would want to go.

Death by snu-snu?

[–] SovietBeerTruckOperator@hexbear.net 19 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Apparently that's not legal. If you can't run for president you can't be vice president. Not that Trump would care but it's not the legal loophole some think it is.

[–] edge@hexbear.net 22 points 3 days ago

That's not actually clear. The 12th says if you're ineligible to be president then you're ineligible to be VP. But the 22nd doesn't say you're ineligible to be president, it says you're ineligible to be elected president. That's a meaningful enough distinction to leave plenty of room for interpretation.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 20 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Apparently that's not legal.

The GOP justices swoop in with a ruling they pulled right outta their asses.

[–] Hatandwatch@hexbear.net 13 points 3 days ago

Where's the Parliamentarian when you need them? Why aren't they stopping anything but minimum wage bills?? They hold so much power, the Dems told me so!

[–] MohammedTheCommunistPalestinian@hexbear.net 34 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Democracy is when there’s elections apparently

Don’t you love the people who talk about how the Mexican Party of Morena is “evil and corrupt” for winning two elections in a row 🤣

I remember how they were going on and saying that “it’s good Mexico has a no re election rule”

Like bruh

I don’t know what to say people

Just just …..

Euros are not ok

[–] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Germany had the same Chancellor for like 15 years: It's OK, people keep voting for her.

Bolivia had the same president for 8 years: dictatorship!! "We coup who we want"- Musk

Looking forward to the 10,000 year reign of the burger emperor, his golden throne (the toilet) fueled by the souls of a 1000 immigrants being sacrificed a day.

American democracy will finally officially die in 2028! Only 3 more years.

Don't let democrats resuscitate this rotting corpse again!

Death to America amerikkka

Never. But The myth is still alive. Which keeps people from seeing the system as completely illegitimate, and therefore worthy of being overthrown.

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 42 points 3 days ago

Gets re-elected in a landslide and then immediately dies before the inauguration begins as 70 years of Big Macs finally tips the scales of his Dorian Gray/Fall of the House of Usher dark compact that has allowed him to live for so long and his heart explodes

lathe-of-heaven

[–] ZeroHora@lemmy.ml 28 points 3 days ago

If everybody work together we can end America before that, just put some effort to it.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 21 points 3 days ago

if he won in 2020 it's already his third term isn't it?

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 22 points 3 days ago

Real Thomas Hobbes hours.

[–] ChaosMaterialist@hexbear.net 14 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

“I don’t think there’s any ‘one weird trick’ to getting around presidential term limits,” Muller said.

"Well, I'd like to see ol Donny Trump wriggle his way out of THIS jam!"

In addition, pursuing a third term would require extraordinary acquiescence by federal and state officials, not to mention the courts and voters themselves.

"Ah! Well. Nevertheless,"

There really is no way without blatantly disregarding the constitution. It would lead to the collapse of the United States.

[–] EnsignRedshirt@hexbear.net 72 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Surely there must be some downsides, though.

[–] CTHlurker@hexbear.net 27 points 3 days ago

Yeah, it's gonna fucking turbocharge the fascism that is already inbuilt

[–] CarbonScored@hexbear.net 50 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The US has blatantly disregarded the constitution loads of times. To pretend that breaking it now would necessarily lead to collapse is a bit weird.

[–] edge@hexbear.net 26 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

There is. The Constitution isn't clear on how the 22nd (anyone who has served two terms is ineligible to be elected president) and the 12th (anyone ineligible to be president is ineligible to be Vice President) interact. Notice the difference in wording, the 22nd is specifically about being elected president, not being president.

So theoretically he could be elected as VP and have his running mate resign to give him the presidency again. The only thing that would really stop that is a Supreme Court ruling, but the Supreme Court is mostly Trump appointees.

Or of course he could take a page from his buddy Bukele and have the Supreme Court say "nah you're good to be elected again" despite the Constitution clearly saying otherwise.

[–] Tabitha@hexbear.net 12 points 3 days ago

So theoretically he could be elected as VP and have his running mate resign to give him the presidency again

I don't even think the resign part is necessary for the right to continue business as usual.

[–] Lemister@hexbear.net 13 points 3 days ago

Oh please. Iowa isnt going to secede because of that.

[–] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 24 points 3 days ago

They should just pass the Schwarzenegger Amendment and get Musk elected
