The National Institutes of Health employee said she knew things would be difficult for federal workers after Donald Trump was elected. But she never imagined it would be like this.

I was laid off because of DOGE contact cancellations. For me and many others iny situation a major reason we chose Federal Government work was a sense of service. I helped Veterans. Helped homeless Vets, helped Vets get better healthcare, worked to make VA more efficient. For that service I received a kick to the junk. I am proud of the service I provided to this country. This sucks.

You did great work and should feel proud of it.

It's a shame that they're specifically targeting those who want to do good, just to enrich those who want to do bad.

The useful idiots have unfortunately won, on both sides.

I'm sorry man. Truly, hang in there and keep your eyes open for new opportunities. There are going to be more people who need help meaning more need for helpers.

Stay true to your values, and thank you.

Well, the trump regime doesn’t value service.

Service helps people in need. Service is hard to privatize and profit from. This is in opposition to the trump regime.

Even if the next admin wants to hire them back who would want to work for a job where you get hired/fired based on the whims of whoever the flavor of the election cycle is?

I mean im in the private sector and have been unemployed for six months now, however I have worked public sector and one reason I work private is the pay is significantly better and I actively save assuming I will be looking for work every couple of years. Publics appeal was primarily that it is more stable, less stressful with more days off and not working over 40 hours a week usually. It will be hard pressed finding individuals to take the pay usually offered if it also has serial unemployment, long work weeks, and little benefits. This means going forward it will be much more expensive for government to function.

I recently lost my job due to the federal government cancelling contracts with my employer. I won't claim that I'm going through Hell, but it's far from unicorns and rainbows.

It's definitely a lot to deal with emotionally all at once. I worry that I may not find a job that I genuinely enjoy as much as the one I lost. Even though I know it's not strictly because of anything I did wrong, I struggle with the idea that I was considered unimportant and expendable. It also makes me feel like I'm not a reliable "breadwinner" for my family. Then there's the little things, like the fact that I'm having to cut back on purchases that aren't necessities, forgo expenditures that I was hoping to make, and things like that. On top of all that, I have a lot of guilt about feeling bad for myself knowing that a number of my former coworkers who were also let go are in a lot worse situations than me.

I'm able to be a bit optimistic about some things. For instance, I'm glad that the ACA (health insurance not tied to employment) is an option. The COBRA healthcare coverage option is ridiculously expensive, but most of the ACA options are notably less expensive and, at least on paper, seem to be better options (ex: lower copays, deductibles, max out of pocket) and there are tax credits you can take based on income that make it even less expensive. Another benefit is that being unemployed gives me more time with my family, more time with friends, and more time to catch up on all the little chores that need my attention.

But, at the end of the day, I will say that I'm strongly considering getting some psychiatric help and/or therapy. The only thing holding me back at this point is concerns over whether I can truly afford it. Sure I can spend $100USD per session for a therapist now, but in a few months, will the cost of those sessions make a difference between whether I have food on the table or not? It's a gamble that I'm just not quite willing to risk right now.

"Welcome to the real world" she said to me condescendingly.

"I laugh at America's fear of a new world order controlling the hemispheres, because my people have been living that for the past 500 years."

Welcome back to humanity.

We all are. Well, those who didn't vote for this shitstain anyways.

[–] lumony@lemmings.world -2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Everyone who voted for hillary clinton in the 2016 primary over Bernie Sanders should be blamed for why we have 2 trump presidencies.

Democrats have shown they'd rather have trump than a candidate who actually fights for the working class.

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 11 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Oh please. The media is to blame for that one. Bernie never got the coverage needed. Also blame the DNC, for basically assuming Hillary would win. And blame corporations for backing the “centrist” Hillary. Then blame who the fuck ever for only having two viable parties. After that blame the people. They got shit to work with.

Btw, I voted for Bernie.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

so did i the first time he got cockblocked and regret it.

also, the only people to blame for only having two viable parties are the american people. living, breathing examples like mexico and sheinbaum prove that going third party makes things better, but only if voters stop unquestionably swallowing the propaganda that there are only two viable parties; or atleast that's true until the american empire forces a regime change upon mexico... again.

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Again, I just really don’t fully blame a big dumb group of people who are told there are two parties. I mean, there are more, but ask almost anyone and they can’t name them all. This is because they get no coverage. That should be illegal.

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago

it's your own responsibility to educate yourself on anything; especially when it comes to voting since coverage showing you what to vote for comes with a profit-centered agenda behind it.

our system has mastered the ability to keep people uneducated and that's the reason why we have trump now and will descend further into fascism; say something the next time someone tells you that they "don't like politics" or "don't like math".

[–] KeenFlame@feddit.nu 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Sure you can blame media for what your entire country chooses to do

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 1 points 3 days ago

I blame the rich yeah. They control the media and the laws. Reduce education and promote hate. People are dumb apes unless they are provided with education. Educated people can look beyond the trees and see the forest. Which are you?
