I don't get it.

[–] QuantumSparkles@sh.itjust.works 30 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Are people here actually thinking this is literal/serious? Or am i missing something?

[–] Soulg@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago

I've noticed a pretty sizable gap in what people can see as obvious internet nonsense versus some kind of serious actual problem.

Like all the comments here making it out to be some kind of weird misogyny. It's just an absurdist shitpost lol

people arent a monolith sparkles okay both can be true at the same time

[–] _cryptagion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 3 days ago (3 children)

is this some gen z thing I'm too millennial to understand?

[–] DealBreaker@lemm.ee 9 points 2 days ago

I think it's because she is trying to appear as an Asian woman, and some people are getting mad over this

So these two are mocking the people getting mad

Sincerely,
A Gen Zer

Probably mad at Ariana cause of the whole wicked set relationship drama.

Edit. 2021. Oh. Uhhh. No clue.

[–] SatanClaus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Redhead left his wife with child for Ariana iirc.

[–] SgtAStrawberry@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I can see that sparking drama, especially with her also leaving a marriage.

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 10 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Gen Xer wondering the same thing. The kid hitting thing joke I get, but not what's supposedly making them angry.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Could it just be as simple as "woman does thing, man is upset?" The kind of man that hits his kids probably also hates women.

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Maybe? I'm assuming it's a joke I just don't get.

[–] PlasticExistence@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don’t get it either, but we’re still on the same page with finding it hilarious when kids get hit, right?

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

No, but I get the dark humor angle.

[–] Agrivar@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Same here! Commenting because I hope someone clues us all in.

[–] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 days ago

It is their fault Ariana Grande is looking so incredible

[–] ChadMcTruth@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago

its only for because sometimes when celebrities on the internet make you mad or when your kid doesnt understand taxes or also when your nephew tries to explain taxes to you

[–] Nublets@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Hey, don't knock it till you tried it

[–] bleistift2@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Don’t knock on it till you’ve knocked it out.

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago

I get knocked down, but I get up again. You're never gonna keep me down.

[–] wahfflez@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

[–] ChadMcTruth@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago

Ariana Grande wishes she looked as good as a Japanese City Pop artist from the 1980s.

[–] ChadMcTruth@lemmy.world 21 points 3 days ago (2 children)

i dont even know what shes doing but i assume these men are justified

[–] Mr_Blott@feddit.uk 15 points 3 days ago

[–] NickwithaC@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Being a woman existing I guess? I don't know. She's not wearing anything outrageous or doing anything crazy or located anywhere for the shoot that would cause alarm to any reasonable person.

I think this photo in particular got alot of backlash because people think she's exaggerating her features to look more Asian. Its not super noticeable, but I think people were sensitive to it because ariana grande has a history of role playing as ethnicities she is not a part of. For example her brown face era when she would often use a blaccent and tanned excessively.

Heres a link to a more in depth reddit discussion about her and her shifting presentation: https://www.reddit.com/r/popheads/comments/ahdxyc/can_we_discuss_arianas_skin_tone_and_the/

Also a YouTube video of her very cringe use of AAVE: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eLOF7Qaklsw

The whole Spongebob thing isn't a great look. The whole directly insulting the ex-wife of Spongebob who left said ex-wife two months after she gave birth isn't good either. The fact that Spongebob looks like a bobo version of her gay and fantastic brother is just fucking gross.

[–] noxypaws@pawb.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What on earth are you talking about? Spongebob?

[–] MothmanDelorian@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] noxypaws@pawb.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

so not even from the actual Spongebob Squarepants show, some musical offshoot

do normal people just know this stuff??

[–] MothmanDelorian@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Yes they do if they follow celebrity gossip. This was a big deal as again he looks like a slightly uglier version of her brother and he left his wife 2 months after she gave birth.
