Eh, if you leave out Fairphone the scoring range is realistic.
And Fairphone is specifically tailored to reach the highest realistically possible ethics standards. No wonder they crush this. The downside is that their phones are quite expensive relative to phones of comparable power.
Why are they including the samsung galaxy book, which is a laptop but not samsung phones, in a mobile phone comparison?
Pixel being that low with long term software support seems whack as fuck.
I mean 4/6 of the categories have very little to do with how good a phone is.
full score on tech sustainability for the company that removed the headphone jack at the same they they releases Bluetooth headphones while their earlier models still can't call properly! Whoohoo
Info on categories. looks like they're not even taking into account repairability in climate. I'd guess that's why apple is scored highly.

Yeah, yeah, the Fairphone is very fair until you're forced to use their software because they're unable to collaborate with GrapheneOS because they leak keys, all their bootloader security is bullshit and they don't care about making it right.
It's true that there are issues preventing GrapheneOS from running on FairPhones, but you're not forced to use the standard OS: you can install other ROMs on FairPhone like LineageOS, CalyxOS, iodéOS, /e/

Why the arbitrary ethiscore classification (25% for average and 60% for good? Do they just want Apple to not be red?
Can some investor pour 100 million or something into fairphone so the phones actually become good?
If it's your average investor, they'll want a return, which will make fair phone stop being ethical.
Isn’t fair phone a for profit company? If it is, doesn’t change much.
If it is a non-profit, then that’s even better, lets get some philanthropist on it.
For profit and for infinitely exponentially increasing profit are two different business types.
There are always exceptions to the rule, but the former usually turns into the latter given enough time.
Only if outside investment is involved. You can survive as a business by just doing good business for quite a while.
Other than being a bit thick, the Fairphone 5 is actually a very good phone.

They make ruggedized phones. I don't think they make normal ones.
I find it difficult to believe every chinese phone maker is evading taxes. It's also questionable how they manged to give an employee owned company, Huawei, a 0 for company ethos.
The fact that the actual research is paywalled, and a lot of the scores seem to be about having the correct documents on your website, makes me a little sceptical of this.

Being employee owned doesn't magically make you a good company
And being unionized doesn’t make you magically have higher wages, but they’re still highly correlated
How is Google Pixel that low? They have good software support and support third party roms like GraphineOS better than nearly any other manufacturer.

Good news, you (probably) can! Find a flagship phone you like from a year to three ago, and go buy a gently used one. Buying things used is almost always better for the environment than buying them new.

A shape that has actual flat, easily gripable edges, as opposed to seemingly everything else that is completely rounded.
(I've got a serious wrist/hand injury to my dominant hand, and that makes this last one pretty important)
Is there anything comparable for all or most of those features, in that price range, capable of being either de googled android, or running an open source and/or privacy oriented os?
I've attempted to look for such a phone, and basically everything is either double or more the cost.
I wish I could pay more to make a phone I am buying more ethical.

I've been using a shiftphone for the last ~5 years. I wonder where they would land on the ranking. They should als do fairly well.
