Israeli officials fear the pope's vocal criticisms and symbolic gestures - such as this year’s nativity scene in St Peter’s Square featuring baby Jesus resting on a Palestinian keffiyeh - may influence global public opinion.

Created by Bethlehem artists Johny Andonia and Faten Nastas Mitwasi, the nativity scene prominently features Palestinian materials, including olive wood, a symbol of Palestinian resilience.

During its unveiling, Pope Francis condemned the global arms industry for profiting from human suffering and reiterated his call for an end to all wars, urging the faithful to remember those suffering in the holy land.

The display, praised by many as a message of solidarity and peace, drew backlash from Israel’s supporters, who accused the Vatican of promoting a pro-Palestinian agenda.

So apparently being Catholic is on the ever-growing list of things considered Anti-Semetic, almost as bad as being outraged at child murder.

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 6 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Well I mean what was the Vatican up to in the 40's?

[–] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 6 points 6 hours ago

Word in the locker room says Israel might counter the Vatican's child-murder accusations with some altar-boy-boning whataboutism. We'll find out after the halftime break, Cotton.

Keep on going a bit further...

There's a good way to prevent industries from profiting on human suffering

Finally the Jews are blaming the Catholics for something.

[–] BetaBlake@lemmy.world 68 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

"you're supposed to touch them not kill them"

  • Catholic Church
[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 6 points 10 hours ago

The Catholic Church had done a lot of both.

Can't believe I'm siding with the fucking pope

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 23 points 11 hours ago (5 children)

This particular pope has been a huge improvement.

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 7 points 8 hours ago

I tend to agree.

I have beef with the whole thing, but he has genuinely been more forward with compassion and trying to curb the worst aspects of it all.

What about siding with a friend?

Even a broken clock is right twice a day

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 8 points 9 hours ago

Unless it's a digital clock. Th n it's just dead.

Modern clocks have developed the ability to be wrong all the time. Innovation at its best.

[–] Darkard@lemmy.world 214 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

If saying that killing children is a bad thing causes you to "lash out" them maybe you're a piece of shit?

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 6 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

What if the kid was slightly annoying at the table next to me in a restaurant for like three minutes?

[–] Rudee@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 hours ago

Well, all sin can be forgiven with enough faith and penance, so...

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 83 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

It's Apartheid South Africa all over again. They've got an unlimited license to be pieces of shit because they've got a bunch of incredibly wealthy, racist friends willing to prop them up indefinitely.

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 9 points 10 hours ago

Indefinitely until their imaginary friend comes back down from the sky…so, forever.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 145 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (2 children)

So, so much irony all around here.

The head of a genocidal state is mad at the head of the world's foremost child rape syndicate, a rape syndicate with a long and storied history of orchestrating genocide itself.

And because one of them deigned to say that, maybe, mass murder of kids is bad for the brand.

Peak human species nonsense.

[–] stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

tbf the pope isn't guilty in the same way as satanyahu is

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 6 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Yeah but that's like replacing the CEO with someone who hasn't committed a crime, and then claiming the company doesn't deserve to be fined for the the crimes committed under the previous CEO.

Organizations are more than just the one person.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 128 points 17 hours ago (4 children)

Im not gonna throw shade at someone for denouncing genocide.

[–] naught101@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

It kinda hits harder coming from someone more shady, TBH. Like, "we know we've done some shit, but you guys are actually fucked"

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 61 points 15 hours ago (4 children)

One of the most infuriating things about humans is their tendency to shit on good things from bad people.

Yes, we all KNOW that person is bad. But if you scold them for doing GOOD things, you are actively discouraging them from being better!

Can you all make sure they don’t secretly do this in northeast America going inland in America and into Michigan, they started pretending they were all still in Israel or Palestine or Iran when that location is quite far away on the big maps. Teleporting use to go on and messed everything up or lieing went on to cover things up or to avoid following certain laws.

[–] ChildeHarold@lemm.ee -5 points 4 hours ago

On the one hand, I totally get being pissed off that a burgeoning global hegemon displaced your people to make room for a group of traumatized refugees in the hopes these refugees could be leveraged to establish a fortress of power projection for said hegemon to dominate a historically defiant region... and I get being pissed off that it worked a little too well to the point that now the fortress of refugees actually has nukes and holds a leash on the global hegemon that gave it all that power in the first place...

On the other hand, that was like 80 years ago and they gave you a chunk of land back and everyone just wants you to stop fighting and frankly you keep bombing them so of course they snipe your children in the streets, and slaughtering 2000 people on a holiday despite no serious escalation from the enemy side in recent memory didn't help the situation, so the overkill by Israel is understandable.

And yet again on the other hand, if Israel has the capacity to permanently decapitate Hezbollah with pagers, then clearly they don't need to level Gaza to get to Hamas leadership, so its clearly overkill and a humanitarian crisis and probably a war crime and they need to stop....

But on the OTHER HAND Iran did bomb them, and Hezbollah was planning an invasion, and... (trails off)

The Pope is Hamas /s
