It has long been said that if all the furries and catgirls disappeared it would cause the internet to collapse overnight.

How many times in our history are Americans going to get duped into hating people they never even interact with and know nothing about?

None of these people know trans people. These morons have just been conditioned to hate them regardless of not even knowing them. It's pathetic. They've never been hurt, or even inconvenienced by a trans person. Bigot fucks.

[–] General_Effort@lemmy.world 44 points 3 days ago (10 children)

Ahh, yes. Purging the armed forces. Nothing sinister about that. Just restoring the professional military service.

Oh no please don't send highly trained members of our military home where they can protect and train their fellow Americans!

The ideological score here must be worth more to Trump than the strength of America's military, already hurting for new recruits, which says a lot and frankly scares the fuck out of me

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 94 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

Weakening the USA's defenses seems to be a consistent theme with Trump.

[–] lychee@lemmy.blahaj.zone 33 points 4 days ago

I think this signals the beginning of a very tough era for trans people more than it does anything about national security. But we shall see

Well, the problem is you're thinking logically. It's an ideological victory on both ends for him.

Conservatives view this as strengthening the military, not weakening it.

The actual strength of America's Military doesn't matter because they don't have hostile nations on their borders. So when America's Military loses some of their force projection ability it can be used to say we're turning towards isolationist policy, which is also a win for him. (From the Putin angle and from the Conservative one)

And, again, if you point out that this move will weaken the American Military, well what are you? A terrorist who doesn't believe they have the greatest, manliest fighting force ever seen?

My immediate thought is that Klinger will be happy.

Trump's legacy will be long term damage to national security, rampant racism and discrimination, and widespread corruption.

They can form their own Blackwater and charge gazilion dollars to operate in the same places as they were before

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 28 points 4 days ago

You joke but that's why they want to fuck up the military. PMCs lobby too and they're willing to do everything in a war from flying the planes to being grunts on the line.

Good... We'll need them for the resistance

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 79 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Then place them in internment camps. We know where this is going you damn Nazi.

[–] auzy@lemmy.world 59 points 4 days ago

He's already completed the first step, by making them seem inhuman and criminal

Which is ironic, because he's the one who boasted about perving on kids

[–] Skydancer@pawb.social 9 points 3 days ago

I assume that's the plan with RFK's "wellness camps". Define gender dysphoria as a qualifying mental illness, and send transgender folks there to replace migrant workers who have been deported.

[–] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 58 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Here we go folks, welcome to the hellscape that is the new America

Cool unsourced/debunked fabrication from a literal tabloid, took me all of two minutes to find this, after looking for an actual source, when the OP-linked article didn't have one:

https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-reported-transgender-military-plan-called-out-charity-1991052

Confirmation bias is a hell of a drug. For shame.

You think with the recruiting problems we have you'd do your best to retain the people we have.

If you can get through basic and fulfill your tasks you should be able to be in the military. If the government doesn't want to pay for "gender affirming care" that's fine. But these people should still be allowed in the military.

Also, what kind of discharge are these people getting? Honorable, General, Dishonorable?

Are there actually 15K trans soldiers in the army, or is this just another number that he pulled out of his ass?

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 17 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Transgender people are significantly more likely to serve in the US military than the general US population.[178][179] According to 2014 estimates from the Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Law and Public Policy, despite the ban on military service, about 21.4% of the total transgender population in the US is estimated to have served in the military. In May 2014, an estimated 15,500 transgender individuals served on active duty or in the Guard or Reserve forces.[22] Wikipedia

So it’s a real number he just thinks military=army like the fake loser he is.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (4 children)

Apparently I vastly underestimated how many people are in the US military in general.

Transgender people are significantly more likely to serve in the US military than the general US population

That also surprises me.

It would be a good move for Biden to offer them honorable discharges now... it'll be better than what they'll get if they wait.

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

He won't because he doesn't care.

Indeed, I'm surprised he doesn't do it first to show the "moderate republicans" that he's on their side.

An easy to get general discharge from the military? I think lots of people with years left to serve are going to enjoy leaving early with all of their benefits.

[–] Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca 58 points 4 days ago (5 children)

I have a feeling most of the benefits will be going out the door behind them shortly thereafter.

How to create government jobs, while also remaining a christofascist overlord. Just like old times, eh?

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 21 points 4 days ago

Yikes. Not a good decision.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 21 points 4 days ago

Would love to see him personally try to kick even one of them out of anything. Pathetic piece of shit.
