Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday slapped down former President Trump’s statement that immigrants are “poisoning the blood of our country” by pointing out Trump appointed his wife, Elaine Chao, who is Taiwanese American, to serve as secretary of Transportation in 2016.

Asked about Trump’s controversial comments, which have drawn comparison to Nazi rhetoric before and during World War II, McConnell pointed out the hypocrisy of the remarks.

“It strikes me that didn’t bother him when he appointed Elaine Chao the secretary of Transportation,” he said.

Chao also served in former President George W. Bush’s Cabinet as secretary of Labor, becoming the first Asian Pacific American woman to serve in a presidential Cabinet.

"Melania Trump[a] (born April 26, 1970) is a Slovenian-American former model ..."

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melania_Trump

But I'm sure it's a genuinely good marriage that one...

Not to mention his prior wife Ivana from the Chech, and his kids with whichever of them...

Those immigrants are fine because they're white (mostly)

Yeah trump has something of a… preoccupation, shall we say, with Swedes. He’s a bit too enthusiastic about the stereotypical Swedish blond hair/blue eyes thing, if you catch my drift.

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 29 points 11 months ago (1 children)

They don't see whites as immigrants, they only use the word for Brown people. That's why white people call themselves ex pats, because they've been using the word immigrant as a racist dog whistle so long, they don't want to call themselves that.

Whether he’s marrying them or deporting them, he can’t help but make life miserable for immigrants.

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 70 points 11 months ago

Moscow Mitch engineered the conditions for this in the first place and didn't have a problem with it during president drink bleach's term. Fuck him and fuck his wife too. She could have spoke up to bitch Mitch and had him do something.

My money is on this just being a stunt in a bigger play. He doesn't care about her just like "My dead name is Raphael and I identify as Ted" Cruz didn't do shit when drink bleach talked shit about his wife.

Hey, wait a minute... which state is Melania from?

[–] Hyperreality@kbin.social 45 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Oh, he obviously means non-white immigrants because he's racist.

Hope that clears up any confusion you may have had.

[–] Poggervania@kbin.social 14 points 11 months ago (1 children)

non-white

But Melania is orange??

[–] JCPhoenix@kbin.social 21 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That's only because he rubb--Oh god, I don't even want to think about that. Nope, nevermind.

[–] cmbabul@lemmy.world 20 points 11 months ago

Dude come on I was fucking eating

[–] ripcord@kbin.social 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

State of Denial.

[–] Maultasche@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Or his first wife

[–] Wrench@lemmy.world 40 points 11 months ago (1 children)

He sure didn't have an issue in 2015 and beyond when Trump was targeting the brown immigrants. Fuck you Mitch

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 17 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Those were proven immigrants that didn’t specifically live in his house, though. It now affects him so it’s important.

  • Donald Trump is the child of an immigrant.
  • Donald Trump Jr is the child of an immigrant.
  • Eric Trump is the child of an immigrant.
  • Ivanka Trump is the child of an immigrant.
  • Barron Trump is the child of an immigrant.
[–] diviledabit@lemmy.world 12 points 11 months ago

Yes but all of those immigrants are white.

[–] sndmn@lemmy.ca 33 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I'll bet Cocaine Mitch would still vote for Idiotler.

[–] tburkhol@lemmy.world 14 points 11 months ago

You can read McConnell's statement as meaning, "Trump doesn't really mean his racist bullshit, he's just playing to the crowd." i.e.: Why would Trump appoint Chao to Sec Transportation if he really believes immigrants are poison? Maybe there's more context than in the article, but it only looks like a "slam" if you project anti-racist sentiment onto Mitch McConnell, a man who, despite his own wife, has long carried an anti-immigrant flag.

[–] alquicksilver@lemmy.world 13 points 11 months ago

Moscow Mitch, the Putin bitch, voting for Putin's cockholster? I just don't see it.

[–] ripcord@kbin.social 27 points 11 months ago (2 children)

holy shit he got slammed

he slammed him

did you see it

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

Mitches feeble shaky old-man hands dropped the damn Chili’s Drink menu on Trump.

[–] Deceptichum@kbin.social 4 points 11 months ago

Got slammed harder than my space jam pogs.

[–] Donjuanme@lemmy.world 18 points 11 months ago

Well she came from the global elites they also swear to detest, much like Moscow Mitch detested Trump. If they didn't have double standards they'd have no standards

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

All I want for Christmas..

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 17 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Good to see from Mitch. Not something I say that often.

[–] FunderPants@lemmy.ca 26 points 11 months ago

It's almost nothing, almost a defense. They ask him about Trumps racism, and he replies like "Trump didn't seem racist to me when he hired my wife." .

If that's the best Mitch can do, he's pathetic.

[–] ringwraithfish@startrek.website 9 points 11 months ago

None of this rhetoric is new with Trump. This was all out there the first go around. Where was Mitch then? Now that the dog is off his leash and isn't so useful he's decided to "say something". Seems too little too late.

[–] cmbabul@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

The fact that Trump and his cronies have on more than one occasion made me agree with Mitch McConnell makes me hate them even more than I do for their bigotry and assholery

[–] PrincessLeiasCat@sh.itjust.works 15 points 11 months ago

This maybe wouldn’t be an issue if you hadn’t enabled him for so long, Mitch. You knew who he was.

[–] Jackcooper@lemmy.world 14 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Write a political headline without using the world slam challenge

[–] CouncilOfFriends@slrpnk.net 2 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

HOW CAN HE SLAM?!

Last time he slammed was when Christ was a corporal

[–] ObsidianZed@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Was he also one of those that voted in favor of banning mixed race marriages?

[–] douglasg14b@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

Got to love a good Two-Face

[–] thefluffiest@feddit.nl 1 points 11 months ago

So now that things are hitting close to home does McTurtle finally come out of his shell. Where were you Mitch, when he demonized others, when he wanted to take away peoples healthcare, when he demolished the institutions of a democratic republic one block at the time?

Ah yes that’s right, you were right there enabling him. Asshole.
