Sad, but with a lower risk of diabetes:

Every 1 km/hour increase in walking speed was associated with a 9% lower risk of type 2 diabetes, with the minimal threshold of 4km/hour equal to 87 steps/min for men and 100 steps/ min for women, the findings suggest.

Type 2, fast walker here. I walk for my health and I enjoy the cardio and feeling.

You know who's really unhappy?

People in sports cars.

I mean... Think about it. Walking fast is still slower than almost all other means of transport. People in cars must always be grumpy as hell.

More life time to enjoy sadness!

We have places to get to instead of places to be.

Then I guess olympic walking is a tragedy.

First we hear fast walking is more gay, now it's less? Which is it?

I'm happy and I walk fast

[–] 6mementomori@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

it is pretty stressful when I'm trying to get somewhere and I'm slowed down by someone who is walking too slow for my pace but too fast for me to overtake them, especially when I have to cross the road many times.

Younger people walk faster and have inherited a shit world. Solved.

This may sound a little... odd, but it changed me, and I think on it from time to time.

Reading some old Star Wars book decades back, maybe the Thrawn series? One of the Imperial commanders was taking his time, strolling to where he was going.

Because, he thought to himself, people in a hurry were not happy where they were, always rushing about to get somewhere else. We was perfectly content where he was.

Anyhow, something to think on.

So interesting as I intentionally walk slower now. There's something cathartic about watching people pass you constantly knowing nothing they're going to is that important in the grand scheme of things.

But Sonic runs

[–] JoShmoe@ani.social 5 points 10 months ago

Step dad propaganda. They’ll tell you anything to get you from running around the pool.
