An Israeli settler group is promoting new properties for sale in southern Lebanon, as the Israeli army wages a bombing campaign in the country that has killed over 1000 people since mid-September.

Uri Tzafon, or the Movement for Settlement in Southern Lebanon’s website boasts spacious, light-filled apartments overlooking a swimming pool, with offers starting at 300,000 shekels ($80,000).

“After the elimination of the Hezbollah leadership…do you also dream of a big house, a view of snowy mountains and a warm community in the land of our ancestors?” the advert reads.

A statement on its website claims the settlement of southern Lebanon is “necessary for Israel’s security” and that “only an Israeli civilian presence will ensure stable control and prevent the area from becoming a terrorist stronghold”.

So who advertises this land? I assume not everyone can simply sell random plots of land, regardless of war? So can this be taken serious or is it more delirious dreams of some crazy people?

It's been done in Golan Heights, West Bank and Gaza, so I'm not sure why this would be any different.

In this case I'm hopeful because Hezbollah is a real army, not a guerilla force like Hamas and crew. I doubt they'll leave any settlements standing.

The acquisition of land through the ethnic cleansing of the native population is central to Zionist Settler Colonialism, this is no different

If an Israeli shows up in Lebanon and says "mine now", Israel will back that claim.

It's delirious dreams of crazy people, yes, but those people have a lot of guns and other materiel from the US and other countries.

They take it forcibly in the same way a man with a gun could come take your home if the police didn't exist. You might be wondering why they don't defend themselves then, and the answer is that the police exist in this case and will help the other guy take your home.

What all of the replies still do not tell me is who is selling this? Who gets the money?

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 1 points 2 weeks ago

Oh that's what you're asking. In that case I have no idea. Maybe someone steals the land and then sells it to people who don't want to do it themselves?

[–] Neon@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

no, it cannot be taken seriously. It's a few people with wishful thinking. Or also possible: They're scammers taking the money of people that wish this will happen and then run when it inevetably doesn't happen.

If you go to the Article, then check out the articles sources, you will soon realize they're a fringe group with no backing.

Which also means that this website is blowing a fringe spectale way out of proportion and should be viewed sceptically.

This is the same as a russian news outlet looking at a neo-nazi group in the US and then saying "US group proposes bill to enslave black people again!"

Thanks, that was my impression too. Some here say that even random freaks get backed by Israeli police, but I doubt it, they are not going to back random people selling random plots of land. If that happens, it has to be from some major company or state actor.
