There a page in project 2025 against overtime! Imagine that!

[–] usernamesAreTricky@lemmy.ml 64 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Plus more scattered throughout. Here's just some of the obvious quotes about it

DOL should clarify that a home office is not subject to OSHA regulations and that time to set up a home office is not compensable time or eligible for overtime calculations

They want to remove overtime pay for work from home

Congress should amend the NLRA to authorize collective bargaining to treat national employment laws and regulations as negotiable defaults. For example, this reform would allow a union to bless a relaxed overtime trigger (e.g., 45 hours a week, or 80 hours over two weeks)

Allowing labor laws to be negotiable is going to be used by companies to given worse labor contracts to unions and is a blatant attempt to weaken their power

Here's a decent article that includes some of the more conniving ways Project 2025 wants to gut overtime

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 23 points 2 weeks ago

You'd think Unions would just reject that bullshit, but then Teamsters is .... probably fully on board.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 134 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Here's what I don't get.

He's incredibly consistent, not paying contractors, or employees. Or paying fractions of what the contract actually stipulated.

I don't get why any contractor would work for him. any contractor that works with trump is going to get fucked over. its how he operates.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 44 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The world is full of incredible idiots. If your megaphone is big enough you can find one for just about anything you need.

[–] Bristlecone@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

I was unaware of just how true this is until Trump became president

[–] Naboo_calls_for_aid@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 weeks ago

Funnily enough, this far along into his political career you'd imagine most of the contractors he's able to hire are his fan base.

[–] nightofmichelinstars@sopuli.xyz 13 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Same reason anyone votes for him, I guess. He fucked all them over too.

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 6 points 2 weeks ago

He's essentially a con man, and there's a sucker born every day.

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

The leopards will never eat my face

[–] anticolonialist@lemmy.world 106 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He didn't have to admit it. Anyone that's been paying attention to him for the last 30 some years knows that he's a con man that doesn't pay his bills.

[–] irish_link@lemmy.world 34 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Unfortunately it seems that the people who rally for him didn’t research him and alway think anything bad said about him is made up. This may actually help show them he really doesn’t like the working class.

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

Either they think it’s made up, or they just convince themselves that the face-eating leopard ”surely wouldn’t eat my face.”

[–] anticolonialist@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

I've been following this POS since late 80s, Grifters are going to grift and con men are going to con.

He doesn't need to show them. He's already said, "I don't care about you. I just want your vote."

[–] todd_bonzalez@lemm.ee 1 points 2 weeks ago

You misunderstand. They hate immigrants and queers so much that they think that all of their problems will disappear if they elect the guy promising to purge society of undesirables.

Same story for every rise of Fascism ever witnessed.

[–] nemonic187@lemmy.world 62 points 2 weeks ago

How is this shocking to anyone? He owes millions of dollars.

[–] Nuke_the_whales@lemmy.world 53 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Trump: I WILL FUCK YOU ALL UP THE ASS!

crowd: CHEERS

Trump: I THINK YOU'RE ALL TRASH AND I WISH I COULD THROW YOU ALL IN A GIANT POOL OF ACID

crowd: ERUPTS WITH APPROVAL

Trump: I WILL EAT YOUR CHILDREN

crowd: CHEERS WILDLY AND THROW BABIES IN THE AIR

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago

You jest but make the "you" illegal immigrants and this becomes his "I Have a Dream" speech.

[–] cultsuperstar@lemmy.world 47 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He's notorious for not paying people. He purposely chose small contractors to help build and do work on his properties, then would say they did terrible work and he wasn't going to pay them. He knew they wouldn't be able to afford to take him to court to get the money owed.

[–] beebarfbadger@lemmy.world 22 points 2 weeks ago

He's a successful businessman, he does indeed run the country exactly like he runs his businesses: stiff the people doing the work for him, divert the funds towards his nepotism clique, bleed the company dry until bankruptcy, and move on to do the exact same thing again because when you're a star, they let you do it.

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 44 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Love to hear ol’ Teamster guy’s thoughts on this.

[–] Enkers@sh.itjust.works 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You mean the guy who didn't endorse anyone? I think it was clear that the higher ups would've liked to endorse Harris, but too many of the rank and file members support trump. I don't think this'd move the needle much.

[–] Rookwood@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

Members who support Trump will never hear this story so it won't change their mind.

[–] anticolonialist@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

The Teamsters Guy did not endorse Trump, he used the platform to directly address the working class. If you listen to a speech he called people like Trump and the entire party out for who they are, called the entire duopoly out for who they are,

[–] s3p5r@lemm.ee 40 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

List of sources quoted in this list of "push back:

So if you were hoping for actual consequences from his base or even just someone new and noteworthy criticizing him, this is not the article for you. I'm glad the Trade Unions are going to spread the word though, that will be a good thing.

[–] barsquid@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago

I despise Donald as much as any other sane person, but Raw Story is garbage.

[–] carl_dungeon@lemmy.world 30 points 2 weeks ago

Who the fuck didn’t know that already? This dude is notorious for not paying anyone for like the last 40+ years.

[–] Vorticity@lemmy.world 26 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

I despise Trump. I want him to lose. This kind of "journalism" needs to die so that the real stories about him don't get buried by half truths and lies. Trump says enough shitty, faschist things that we don't need to twist his words like this.

Trump said that he hates paying people overtime so, if they're getting close to overtime, he brings other people in. He does what every business does and implements shifts. He didn't say that he screws people out of overtime pay for time they worked. He avoids overtime pay by bringing in a new shift of workers.

How often Trump stiffs his employees and contractors for real is a good story. This story is essentially a lie that attempts to portray Trump badly but really only makes "the left" look bad.

Don't lie and ruin the credibility of left-leaning media. Use the real ammo that Trump drops like bread crumbs everywhere he goes.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world -2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Him screwing over workers IS journalism that works against him. His bullshit "man of the people" shtick and trying to reform the GOP as pro-labor is in direct contrast to him screwing people over.

Christ, you need to take a break.

[–] Vorticity@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

I know that he does screw over employees, but how is that the case in this circumstance? He is sending workers home before they hit overtime and bringing in a different shift of workers. Every business does that. Every business attempts to minimize the amount of overtime that they pay. In fact, that's the point of overtime laws, to disincentivize working employees too many hours.

I'm not defending him as a person. I'm saying this is shitty journalism that just gives him something additional to point at when he says that the media lies about him. We shouldn't be giving him that ammo.

bUt He’S sUcH A gOoD bUsSiNeSsmAn!

[–] WoahWoah@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

Somehow his supporters will believe he only means no overtime pay for black people, not good patriots like them.

[–] ohellidk@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 weeks ago

Oh, it gets better! Glad to see these new "shocking" reports that surprises nobody at all.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

He has done it for so long he really thinks that is what you are supposed to do. I was completely done with him when I read what he did to the people who built that casino all those years ago. He ruined lives and never once has he thought or cared about it. Its not something he is capable of.

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

So he admits to being a thief.

[–] vegeta@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Thank you sir, may I have another

Fascist Bojangles jerking the air cocks with them tiny hands

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 6 points 2 weeks ago

The GOP paints a beautiful picture of our future. /s It is just sad that this race is even close. It is sickening that a large amount of our population supports this.

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 6 points 2 weeks ago

His supporters should go ear-diaper again and refuse to get paid for their work

[–] Twattymctwatterson@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I read that as "Unreal: massive push back after Trump admitted he sniffed his workers at latest rally." The funny thing is I was like yeah sounds about right...stiffed is even better though lol

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (3 children)

I fucking hate defending this piece of shit, but what he's saying isn't "they worked overtime and I refused to pay them."

He said: "I hated to give overtime. I hated it. I shouldn't say this, but I'd get other people in. I wouldn't pay."

So he's doing the scumbag, but legal, thing of "you're about to hit overtime so don't come in/continue working. Someone else will finish/cover your shift." Because as we all know he's a cheap piece of shit.

"The media" aren't doing themselves any favors by misleading people with the way the wrote this. It just adds to the Magoos hatred and belief that they're being lied to by everyone other than Trump and Faux News... Fucking morons everywhere... Magoos and media assholes alike. Gotta get them clicks though, who cares about the impact...

[–] davidagain@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't think people are upset because he broke the law, that's a separate ref flag, they're upset because he did whatever he could to reduce wages for ordinary Americans and boost profits for himself. It's shitty and he's saying it out loud.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 2 points 2 weeks ago

I guess I'm desensitized to that because literally every retail job does the same thing. It's definitely shitty though, but it's "normal" in our shit society.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 4 points 2 weeks ago

It just makes the media lose credibility, which is why we are here in the first place.

[–] smokebuddy@lemmy.today 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Gotta get them clicks though

I liked how the same author left us hanging and wrote a second seperate article for the quote about The Purge from the same rally, and made us click the link for it rather than just give the information.
