Now this is the kind of calling out we can get behind

I would like to add that it's kinda rare for an United-stasian cartoon to put the Brazilian flag in a "bunch of world flags" scene. Damn, they went that far into putting it in the middle of the screen! That's unusual!

(Mark my words, we will take over the world soon enough /jk)

[–] dis_honestfamiliar@lemmy.world 21 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Why wouldn't you. Already own like 25% of the American continent.

You know what's funny

I watched a video saying how corruption helps a country grow faster. It's a specific type of corruption though: rich people asking politicians to create laws and make certain things happen.

The bad news is that 99% of people won't benefit. Insert Pikachu face if you will.

I think it was video # 4 of this series https://youtu.be/Bc1lVZ_Bi08?si=d_lmdCDepDjF2cSz

That's such a Kissinger frame of mind.

Order with injustice over justice with chaos (sic).

It would have been even more if the Pope could draw a straight line ...

In the movie Winter Kills (1979) John Huston's character, before plummeting from a skyscraper to his death, he says to Jeff Bridges' character:

You get out of this alive, son-
You get out of this alive.
Take our money out of the western world and put it in South America.
Oh!
Brazil. Ah!
Aah!
Brazil! They're the next ones up!

Also this movie is shockingly good, 10/10 recommend from me won't spoil anything.

Unexpected wholesome Butch Hartman?

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 41 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

With how he is, it's more likely one of the animators slipped it in there and he didn't notice. You can bet nickelodeon definitely didn't notice.

I'm too high to Google it and I'm hearing mums voice and zipping in and out of sleep

reminder to self kinda

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

I agree, which is why it was really unexpected. I also agree with others here that it's more likely a rogue animator perhaps snuck it in.

[–] ValorieAF@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Agreed. I was just putting it out there.

[–] MsSprouts@vegantheoryclub.org 40 points 2 months ago

Damn Canadian liberals need to get with the times and recognize Palestine 🇵🇸

[–] Snailpope@lemmy.world 38 points 2 months ago

"I'm Doug Dimmadome owner of the Dimsdale Dimadome, and I recognize the country of Palesdome, er, Palestine"

[–] VinesNFluff@pawb.social 19 points 2 months ago (3 children)

The list from english wikipedia says my country (Brazil) only recognised Palestine in 2010

But in portutugese wikipedia it is said we've recognised them since 1975.

I don't know which one is right, so.

[–] uberstar@lemmy.ml 19 points 2 months ago

It seems that relations started in 1975, but formal recognition commenced in 2010:

I love when shows have subtle nods to show their support for these things rather than having to draw as much attention as possible to how progressive they are being

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Here we are 23 years later learning about this, it’s kind of making the nostalgia around this show shine again.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 19 points 2 months ago (2 children)

This episode is going to be put on more blocklists than the Teletubbies bear now.

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Uhhh, teletubbies bear? Blocklist?

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The Lion and Bear – a masterpiece in horror without even trying

At the bottom of the article the video is linked. The audio team was having a field day with this one.

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

Yeah, I could see how it could be off-putting for children...

[–] Resol@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Pretty sure I have a French language DVD of that specific Teletubbies episode. Pirated too.

And yes, it's only that episode.

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

With how chunky the flags are it could just be Jordan

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

It's possible, but even at that level of detail it would have been trivial to add a white dot and elongate the red triangle. I'm thinking they intended it to be Palestine.

[–] RandomVideos@programming.dev 15 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Did they put the Chad flag right next to the Romanian flag?

[–] uberstar@lemmy.ml 11 points 2 months ago

baited

or should I say, Barbaited!

it seems like they used the wrong colors if they intended to draw Barbados though, otherwise I couldn't find an exact match.

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 months ago

I thought it's just Romania, twice.

[–] Icalasari@fedia.io 13 points 2 months ago

Dammit Canada get your shit together and recognize Palestine

[–] RegalPotoo@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

sigh guess I need to go write another letter to my MP

[–] Resol@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago (2 children)

My country was one of the first. It also recently recognized Israel as well. Everyone I know is protesting the latter.

Spoiler: it's Morocco.

[–] nonailsleft@lemm.ee 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Funny thing: they did so in exchange for other countries recognizing their annexation of the Western Sahara. Their own little Palestine

Maybe it's the flag of Saddam Hussein's Ba'ath party? Maybe that cartoon was openly defending the right for Iraq to get WMDs?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arab_Socialist_Ba%27ath_Party_%E2%80%93_Iraq_Region

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

Wow, really horrifying how you can see the spasms of violence since 2004 in the frequency bunching of these recognition dates. Like, you can tell shit went down in 2011 and 2024

[–] emergencyfood@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The second image in the lead is showing the list of countries who recognised Palestine after the episode in question. Based on the title, you need the list of countries who recognised before.

And yes, we recognised them in 1988.
