Researchers are ecstatic at the prospect that they may have finally discovered the region of space from which Ozzy Osbourne came to this planet.

Ok, that's the skull. Now, do how aliens would reconstruct the Nebula's face, vs the Nabula's actual face.

[–] kamenlady@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago (2 children)

For me, the bare skull does imply some derpyness. I think it's the position of the eyeholes.

All I can see is

Also the mouth makes it look like it's going "huh."

Isn't the bottom image from The Jungle Cruise ride in Disneyland?

Here is a better representation of the nebula:

[–] rustydrd@sh.itjust.works 52 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If I rotate this picture 180°, it looks pretty much the same as the one in the OP.

You have a good eye

It's not fake, just processed differently.

The petals of this rose are actually a stellar nursery where new stars are being born. This nebula has also been referred to as the “skull”, as it resembles a human skull in certain orientations.

[–] flora_explora@beehaw.org 7 points 2 months ago

If you turn this upside down and squint a little, you get the skull from the image above!

See my comment, it's real.

[–] AFC1886VCC@reddthat.com 16 points 2 months ago (4 children)

"Some say"

Those who say it doesn't look like a skull must be dumb

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

Could be face blind. Or have a lack of pareidolia.

[–] IrritableOcelot@beehaw.org 6 points 2 months ago

I mostly really dont like the use of "depicts" here. Depicts means is a representation of, which is just wrong and feels a little too close to creationist. "Resembles" would be better.

[–] kamenlady@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

I think they're using the ancient-aliens narration style.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 4 points 2 months ago

All of these kinds of photos are doctored because the raw data isn't as interesting.

[–] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago
[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

Not resembles, DEPICTS. The nebula has become self-aware!

[–] grandma@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 months ago

Had to blink a few times but damn that's metal

[–] abbadon420@lemm.ee 8 points 2 months ago

Nasa used filters before filters were cool

[–] OprahsedCreature@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 months ago

This is, in fact, quite metal

I feel like, if Bill Nye ever drops a metal album…

This should be the album art.
