Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

BaskinginmyownfilthThoughts doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

Oh but it would be so much more accurate. Someone please create that community.

anecdote: during the pandemic every day seemed the same. i sometimes forgot ro shower for a few days. so i put a water sensor in my shower. when i shower, it starts a macrodroid automation that records the date. another macro plans and reminds me when it's shower time.

Don't you like... Feel the need to wash on your skin? No microcontrollers required?

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 73 points 1 year ago

Yes, I, too, feel very real emotions like a desire to run water over my human skin. I definitely do not require microcontrollers to instruct me on when it is time to do so! Just like all completely normal humans. Of which I am one.

Not always, I'll often forget to shower until I look in the mirror and realize my hair needs to be washed. Peak pandemic I'd sometimes go a few weeks without showering until I could smell myself. Just not something that's on my mind most of the time.

OP doesn't lie

[–] halfapage@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Oh well, fair enough. Glad you found a solution that works for you.

[–] Tetsuo@jlai.lu 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We have a great macrocontroller, a brain.

Maybe not as reliable but definitely easier to program.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 year ago

Except those times where it just stops writing to log files. Sometimes I'll be in the shower zoned out and find myself on the last step of my routine without remembering completing any of the steps.

Lieutenant Commander Data, is that you?

[–] Urist@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

Nah, they didn't say anything about implementing voice activation by the command "engage".

An excruciating number, yes

Give them time, thoughts take longer than hope to wither and die

Mustache, or huge gaping mouth?

[–] PhlubbaDubba@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

Lukewarm water helps prevent the skin from peeling or shrinking at the burn site

My shower thoughts are always repeating cycles of "fuuuuuuuck this feels niiiiiiiiice" and "time to turn up the heat a smidge." Am I doing it wrong?

Yes. Not enough daydreaming about winning arguments, mixed with intrusive thoughts and general self-loathing.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

my shower thoughts are always "God damnit get this shit over with, I want to get out of this fucking water coffin already.... I wonder what would happen if you cooked rice in milk? GOD DAMNIT WHY CANT WE HAVE STAR TREK SONIC SHOWERS YET"

[–] Hadriscus@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

If these are blue and spiky I might prefer regular ones

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 year ago

Uggggh I'm jealous. The city is working on the civic plumbing for months and basically the work their doing means my on-demand hot water heater barely goes up to "tepid."

Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for the infrastructure work.

Maybe I'll go shower at the gym or a friend's lol

Excuse me, I shower once a fortnight whether I need it or not!

[–] BeatTakeshi@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Once a day is definitely not too much.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Excuse me, but do you know how many people I have to kill to take a shower around here?

[–] shasta@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Sir, this is a Wendy's. You're not allowed to shower around here. You have to go home to do that.

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 9 points 1 year ago

I'm only subbed because I'm too disabled to shower myself.

[–] Resol@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't ever have philosophical thoughts in the shower. I just think ordinary things that people usually think of outside the shower. And I shower once a week, so... yeah idk what a "shower thought" is. But I just come here for the philosophy goodness.

[–] Katrisia@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago (5 children)

Similarly, people interested in philosophy (and other theoretical stuff) might take a break and think of different things like "but how's the soap made, anyway?".

Lemmy showerthoughts is the mind dump community I always wanted

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Then where are they even having thoughts? I don't think the location is what's different. I think they're just on different drugs.
