I work as a contractor doing health assessments across multiple minesites in Western Australia. All mines require staff to do a pre-employment medical, which covers a range of things, including hearing and lung function. I travel around and retest people on those last two, to ensure they're not suffering hearing damage or contracting silicosis or any other issues with their jobs. The site I'm currently at, I've been getting a lot of push back from the Open Pit Manager. Managers don't need to do much, I send them the appointment times and the staff due, all they need to do is allow the crew member to leave for 30 minutes. However, he has been uncooperative since I got here, but now he's annoyed me.

I usually test anyone past 6 months employment, despite the standard being 12 months, because I'm already here, I won't be back for 2 years (per the tests legal requirements) and it's 30 minutes out of their day. He has recently gone over my head to corporate to get the exact legislation as a way of sending less staff, I assume as a way of limiting downtime. So I've started rejecting anyone he sends that's been hired less than 365 days. This morning I send someone away who's due in less than 2 months (beginning of June). That's 2 work rotations out here. I will likely still be here then, but if he wants me to follow the rules, I'm going to follow them to a T. So now he's pulled people up from the pit, sent them to my office, only for me to turn them around and tell them to come back in a swing or two. Maybe next time he'll just co-operate.
