News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

MODERATORS

Am I going crazy or has the reddit community got brain damaged. I mean nothing against you if you enjoy this kind of content but top page with 36k upvotes?

This is worse than third party apps dying, this is the actual content turning into Facebook level crap. I'd rather have the_donald at this point, at least it made me chuckle now and then. I'd rather scroll through TikTok if I wanted to see this kind of stuff. Feels like everyone there got lobotomized, and I don't buy that these are all bots upvoting and commenting.

"this kind of content," Why are you making people give reddit traffic to figure out what you're talking about about?

[–] NeptuneOrbit@lemmy.world 13 points 7 months ago (1 children)

For those that don't want to drive traffic, the link is to reddit. A post on r/nextfuckinglevel that is apparently a minute long video of a "probing" prank. The video is a minute long and there are hundreds of comments. Emoji of a van and an alien imply he's trying to convince aliens want to stick things in people's butts? As a prank?

Thanks, hero we need!

You're still on Reddit? Lol

Now that they are public, their mission is to deliver shareholder value. Every decision they make will have to lead to more money. And like it or not, "Facebook level crap" sells ads.

Reddit was one of the largest holdouts of the Web 2.0 experience. Even if there were signs of it coming to an end for years, I think posts like your example are a pretty indicator that that time has passed

Everything against you if you enjoy this content.

The brainded people watching this are why stupid YouTube channels like this are popular.

When you remove the bar for how good videos need to be to be popular, you get trash like this.

Anyone with a smart phone thinks they are the next big movie maker.

Leave it to the professionals.

I think it's fine, as in I don't understand the doom and gloom of your post.

Popular just means lowest common denominator. It's just a standard joke. It sets up expectations of "just another bumper sticker" and then it surprises you with it doing the absurd thing it promised that you didn't think was going to happen. Then it also references 'Men In Black', which is also going to make other people enjoy it for the reference.

Comedy used to be slap stick and minstrel shows. A horror movie was a train going forward. This too shall pass.
