So much of the economy is selling ads for things hardly anyone seems to be buying.

I play stupid phone games without a paid turn-off-all-ads version and the ads that aren't for similar games are for the ad system itself. The hours of ads I've watched this year have had a potential payout to the ad buyers of maybe $20. How does this system keep going?
