The dismissive nature of the “use Linux” response is lib shit.
It can be dismissive, but don't ignore that linux and by extension FOSS is a philosophy and that's what we're really pushing. It's a little "your real problem is capitalism" dogwhistle if you will.
I agree with you, but there is nuance to this topic, just like the OPs image states. Pushing for growth of the community is great and necessary, but inadvertently pushing away users isn’t going to help the community and philosophy. “Btw I use arch” has become derogatory and people outside the joke will have a negative view of all Linux and the seemingly pretentious nature of the community.
so what's the solution. as far as i am aware people on the internet really just be saying shit
I think the solution is not being snarky and smug about suggesting the use of Linux. It’s been said plenty in this thread, but understanding the frustration and the persons use case is a good start. Followed by making the suggestion to use open source alternatives for the use cases.
Just saying “lmao use Linux, noob” is the behavior I’m against.
I must not be around the same social media circles. I've seen a few flamewars but honestly there's more comments complaining about "use linux idiot" than actual "use linux idiot" comments. These days I can't be emotionally invested enough in that sort of flame war anymore. Linux is awesome and I just feel sorry for Windows users who desperately cling on to such an oppressive platform.
