Ok fair enough, but I wouldn't have installed Linux if I had not seen it recommended.
I'm not a computer toucher, but I can follow written advice.
These sorts of posts always scold anyone giving out actual solutions just so being miserable can continue. This cultural thing almost has an end of history type vibe to it. It's also pretty hostile to divergent and often solution focused neurotypes.
Linux evangelism kinda makes sense, no one is spending billions on marketing and ads for it. I think Linux evangelists should ask about use cases first, instead of just posting a generic "use Linux".
Sometimes I want to infodump about NixOS, we just gotta find a balance where you feel heard and also gain an encyclopedic knowledge of using functional programming to generate reproducible OS images based on Linux and systemd. Its only fair.
Sucks that NixOS is basically run my technofascists at Anduril now. Reproducible, deterministic warcrimes are in our near future
Yeah the hostile takeover has been a whole thing, but I don't think they'll be able to maintain control of the ecosystem long term. Anduril has done a lot of damage to people's confidence in the Nix governance process. I think projects like Lix are well positioned to replace Nix, but it also seems like DeterminateSystems is distancing themselves from nixpkgs (and taking Anduril money) so idk.
What we really need on our side is non evil business interests or govt grants or whatever that can donate/fund big CDNs and server farms for running hydra so lixpkgs can happen.
