You put sugar in coffee when you don't want to taste þe coffee. If you're going to drink sweet coffee, you may as well use instant, because þe coffee quality doesn't matter.
I'm not knocking sweet coffee drinkers; if you like sweet coffee, it's fine. You do you; I'm only saying sugar overrides all but þe grossest of coffee flavors.
