At least we got to see what happened to the other spiral haired girl from episode 2.

Yes, as the other commenter said, much improved animation this episode.

The incoherent scenes are thrown together, each with their own body horror reveal.

Poor mom...

I am not believing this girl's story about who she is, where she came from, or why she's there for one goshdarn second.

The thigh shots though...

OP for MF Ghost sounds like was lifted right out of an Initial D game... The ED is a bit of a yawner for me though.

Wajutsushi doesn't have that same meta feel like TEIS.

After just 2 episodes, it's more like "appearances are deceiving" and "don't believe what anyone says, and doubly so for cute anime girls"

Getting into actual car-to-car racing means this was much improved over episode 1!

Endless scenes of CG cars running around, with overexcited narration.

The race queen costumes are nice tho...

@rikka@ani.social

Don't judge me.

My early tierlist (after 1-3 episodes)

S Tier

  • Raise wa Tanin ga Ii/Yakuza Fiance - Weird romcom in hardcore Yakuza society. A delightful surprise so far. Thanks @glilimith@lemmy.blahaj.zone for the recommendation!
  • Dan Da Dan

A Tier

  • Wajutsushi - The whole concept of the "Talker" as a character class is brilliant IMO, i.e. the guy shouting out commands and attack names to buff their allies. The standard fantasy world gets a nasty edge with betrayals, and other morally questionable decisions, which is the best feature so far.
  • Maou 2099 - This was a surprisingly good first episode with good world building, but I'm waiting to see how it develops.
  • Shangri-La Frontier - Ah, comfort food.
  • Re Zero - It's deja vu all over again.

B Tier

  • Acro Trip - Chrome/Kuroma the clueless yet deviously manipulative villain makes this work, but can it sustain a whole season?
  • Tower Of God - It's getting too confusing now, with too many characters and not enough screen time to define them, and where the important conflict and drama is.
  • Magilumiere - Workmanlike, like the dutiful office workers it portrays, but is it fun?
  • Blue Lock - Powerpoint manga panel action is fun, but the mood music seems a bit off this season.
  • MF Ghost - Watching little CG cars zipping around a CG track in virtual identical ways is boring. A much improved 2nd episode bumps this up to B Tier. This is by the same author as Initial D.
  • Trillion Game - I found some heart in the 2nd episode, so it's staying
  • Chi - Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite - Hard to watch. The problems are too true to life, when I want escapism.
  • Uzumaki - Junji Ito's manga art bought slavishly to the screen, for good or ill. Only 4 episodes.'

C Tier

  • SAO GGO2 - Decent production, but there's nothing at stake.

F Tier

  • Danmachi S5 - I didn't watch S1-S4, so I have no idea who's doing what.
  • Ranma 1/2 - Soulless remake. It might be more manga-accurate, but I am not amused.

Hopefully they'll start by changing that awful name.

Animation, Japanese or not, isn't just for kids.

Me in the future: "Nobody watches anime anymore. It's too popular"

Ampere Analysis sees that anime has become a mainstream culture in the U.S. and Europe with significant potential for expansion from $31.2 billion in 2023 to $60.1 billion by 2030.

Spotify (SPOT) also reported an increase of 395% in anime music streams since 2021.

Lots of running and jumping around.

Once you've got enough bullets for your team, it makes more sense to GTF out of there, than try to go for the special prize(s).

Maybe Khun has some overconfident plan for that though.

The FUG team seems clueless. I'm not sure what Endorsi's team intends to do to advance.

Every team starts with just enough bullets to send all their members to the next stage. The easiest thing would be to stand in a suicide circle with guns pointed at the next member, or give all the bullets to one trustworthy member to shoot all the others, and use the last one on their self.

But you survived without injury....

OMG, she actually

spoilerdid sell her kidney!

I think this is related to the concept of owing someone for saving your life, or any big favor, and how this is a bad thing to carry for long, particularly if you're a high ranking Yakuza, like someone in Yoshino's position

spoilerSo Yoshino sells her kidney, gives the cash to Kirishima, and calls it even.

Kirishima sees this as very appropriate behavior following the Yakuza code of honor, and proclaims his love for her.

I am very much enjoying this!

In Raise Wa Tanin Ga Ii, the female protagonist's feet are in the ED in a few closeups.

I agree that the MC's goal of re-conquering the world to re-create his feudal(?) empire sounds deluded and decidedly un-sympathetic, so I am interested in whether or how his goals change over time.

OTOH, we didn't really get much detail on how his old empire was run. His insistence that everyone defer to him as "King" probably indicates outright feudalism, moreso than the social democratic(?) consumerist "evil" empire from "Tis Time For Torture, Princess" (OTOOH, I'm sure if you asked Charles Windsor how he wants to be addressed, I'm sure he'd reply "King" too)

It's a Netflix exclusive worldwide. You figure they threw money at Trigger for it to be that way...

Ukraine has said that its forces have withdrawn from the eastern city of Vuhledar, a defensive bastion that had resisted repeated Russian attacks since Vladimir Putin’s 2022 full-scale invasion.

The military command in Kyiv said its troops left late on Tuesday. They had retreated in order to preserve personnel and combat equipment, it said, adding that Russian combat units had attacked from three directions and were close to “encircling” the city.

The fall of Vuhledar is a boost for the Kremlin and comes as Russian troops advance across the eastern Donetsk oblast. In February they captured the city of Avdiivka, outside the regional capital of Donetsk, occupied in 2014.

A pretty good summary of the DOJ documents in the Russian propaganda campaign.

The movie just recently became available for streaming, so I got a chance to watch it.

Mostly a recap of the first 2 seasons, but from Nagi and Reo's point-of-view.

I felt disappointed by this:

Nagi isn't the most captivating or motivated character. He has a one-dimensional personality and this movie does nothing to change that.

He spends most of the movie moaning about what a hassle it is to do just about anything: Playing soccer, brushing his teeth, even eating.

Incredible football super powers aside, he just isn't interesting enough to be the subject of a 90 minute movie.

It was nice to watch the group elimination stage from Team V's point of view, but it's presented almost as quick highlights, with maybe the best part being against Nico's Team Y, although more screen time is given to their fateful match against Isagi's Team Z.

And that's a problem, because we already saw what happened in V vs Z in excruciating detail in the TV episodes.

Assuming anyone who is investing time and money to watch this has already watched the show already knows exactly what happens, so what was the value add here?

Although the production did animate just about everything from scratch for the movie, there was disappointingly little actual new story.

And the movie production quality was also not that great.

The TV show is famous for its Powerpoint-style graphics, and the movie was only slightly above that.

It felt like a missed opportunity to "fill in the gaps" of the action that's happening between the Powerpoint slides.

To sum up, it feels like a lot of poor production and concept decisions.

Apologies for the slightly off-topic post...

George R R Martin confirms he hasn't written anything for the 2 remaining A Song Of Ice And Fire books since 2022.

He wishes that they were finished.

The last published book in the series, A Dance With Dragons, was published in July 2011, now 13 years ago.

A little off topic, but the whole Japanese "utsukushii" and/or "kawaii" aesthetic... Where does it come from?

Apparently unrelated to the massive Netflix anime leak, the Re:Zero movie length premiere has also leaked.

This one appears to be related to a canceled showing at Japan Expo in Paris, similar to the massive CR premiere leak from a convention in Washington couple of seasons ago.
