I remember this like HOI4 focus tree for the USSR (I know, I know) where it said the left for trotsky, the center for stalin and the right for bukharin, and that gave me a bit of curiosity in what it meant and so I researched and got around to the same vague sense of thought that I eventually pressed on to actual Soviet research.
BTW, if you have seen a WW2-era USSR HOI4 focus tree that isn't vanilla (which, admittedly has a lot of flaws) let me know.
World Ablaze has a USSR focus tree that I remember being pretty cool, but that mod is difficult as hell
The Total War mod is like advanced vanilla with a very detailed focus tree without going fully Black Ice levels of complexity

Yeah It's very similar, I know someone (I don't remember) had like criticisms on the paranoia system on Stalin, and maybe the portrayal of the Great Purges, I'm not sure, but I don't play vanillla/WW2 era HOI4 that much currently.. (The Fire Rises HOI4 mention lol)
