Conservatives across the world using God's name to persecute, oppress, and harm people they don't like.

While simultaneously insisting that saying "oh my god" is blasphemy of the highest order

[–] BogeyTheSwear@lemmy.zip 39 points 1 week ago (1 children)

We should just all start calling them blasphemers whenever gods name comes up in a political discussion.

Progressives really need to take back being the party of morality and religion. I am an atheist and even I recognize the need to play to this side. Republicans have claimed the party of morality and religion and Progressives never seem to call them out on it. Like the GOP platform is basically the opposite of the message of Christ and I never see them called out for it other than message boards and comment sections.

Part of the problem is that in my mind, morality and religion are only loosely related and are often at odds when dealing with the realities of the main established religions. Like there are people who truly believe that one of the must evil things one can do is deny the existence and supremacy of their god.

And it's that stuff that sits at the forefront of my mind when thinking about religion.

Then there's the whole angle of some people needing religion or the invisible father figure always watching and waiting to punish in the afterlife or else they'd be evil (and actual evil, not "I broke one of the made up religion rules and ate the wrong species at 3pm on a cloudy wednesday and accidentally thought about a woman's bum while doing so"). I can't even relate to this.

Ironically, if they had ever read the Bible, they'd know they tick all the boxes of the many scriptures that distinctly outline and warn of false Christians.

I'm convinced nothing pleases Satan more

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I think the Satan mythology is one of the glaring silly points of christianity. You really believe god created satan and its satan that's tempting you with whatever sins. God created demons to turn you away from god? Idk man

look sometimes the butthole is for fun and sometimes it's for shit. and evangelical christian god is the biggest butthole i've heard of

The weird thing is a lot of them believe that Satan can essentially win and knock God off the top spot and take his job.

Isn't that kind of not the point of God?

I also love walking them down the road that if god is omniscient he knew the angels would "betray" him and if he is omnipotent he created the angels capable of "betrayal" and that no matter the outcome god chose it. So god can script the devil to win.

Those beliefs in an all powerful god sound a lot like a guy doing a sock puppet show if you put any thought into it.
