I have genuinely thought that what is needed is a liberation theology-led crusade against American evangelicalism. Maybe the Pope can lend a few of his divisions.
The current pope ratted out several liberation-theologist priests to the argentine military junta, and got them killed.
There's a good section on him in the book Operation gladio, about both his and the vatican's role is helping the CIA crush liberation theology and get a bunch of leftist priests assassinated.
