the Iranian military attacked a crowd of protesters, killing ~88 and injuring between 205-8,000. The violence increased the unrest, leading to a general strike and the Shah fleeing the country in January 1979.
The massacre, known as Black Friday, began when thousands of protesters gathered in Tehran's Jaleh Square for a religious demonstration, unaware that the government had declared martial law a day earlier due to widespread political unrest.
Some sources estimate that 4,000 people were shot down by tanks, guns, and military helicopters. The deaths were described as the pivotal event in the Iranian Revolution that ended any "hope for compromise" between the protest movement and regime of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.
The massacre led to widespread protests, and a general strike in October shut down the petroleum industry that was essential to the administration's survival. The Shah fled Iran in January 1979, clearing the way for the Iranian Revolution, led by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Jury duty update:
It fucking sucks. Everything about this is dehumanizing. The process, just… everything. It might be better in other states/countries. Not here. I’d have to give a minute by minute, which I fucking could if I didn’t have a better use for time since it’s ETCHED THE FUCK IN. The courts in place county are that fucking bad.
Best part: we had to stay late. We already had a late lunch break. It was 10 minutes to the advertised release. The last voredurr or however the fuck it’s spelled was about to start. The fucking judge gives a 10 minute speech about thankful she is and she aspires to respect our time. This was followed by a one page essay of content about how our system is special, covid ruined it because it needs the human touch, AI glazing, and, of course, how important the individual jurors are. Immediately followed by calling the audience the jury box before apologizing and correcting herself. Fake fucking shit. Tie me to a Molotov and throw me at place county courthouse.
I haven’t even had a chance to try and get on a good case to nullify. The first was an open and shut murder case I knew about already which gave me an out. That dude deserves a fair trial even though he totally did it, so I was honest.
Second case: DV and I had to be honest about my experiences and inability to be impartial because that shit would be triggering af.
Bonus fuckery: my boss fucking lied when he said he would pay me. He meant he would give me hours around the jury hours. Ihave to show up again tomorrow. I won’t make enough tomorrow unless I’m up at the ass crack of dawn or stay until early morning after. Yay. I’m only losing 7/8ths of my take home per day this shit goes on. Or would be at least if I didn’t have to do a full day of a system designed by Kafka’s strongest soldier followed by a shift to make rent.
No shit, I straight up told the initial judge doing eligibility that I am censored medical condition and can’t afford my meds at the moment. Her response? I have many lawyers who take the same meds, it doesn’t actually impact your judgement. What the actual fuck. They fixed the problem of “nobody worth being a juror escapes it” by not exempting anyone except for one dude who was 75 and a stay at home dad with no childcare alternatives. They didn’t even exempt the self-employed (no employees, just a worker being his own boss) boat mechanic who said he would be financially ruined by a week without work. The initial pool was at least 300. They didn’t even exempt the jehovas witness who his faith forbid him from judging anyone. So much for religious freedom if it doesn’t oppress anybody.
I’m genuinely questioning my sectarian tendencies at this point. Y’all have a point I should have considered in a fairer manner. Taking recs for anything anarchist about court systems so I can hopefully have a paper copy to bring into court and read since nO PhOnEs oR E-rEaDeRs before this fucking week ends.
