If Germans hadn't shat the bed we could've been living in a completely different world today. Had German communists won then all of Europe would've almost certainly had gone communist as well. Without WW2, the US would've remained a regional power and very likely would've ended up following the rest of the world towards socialism and communism.
That, Nazi Germany and the Sino-Soviet split. Pretty much everything that could go wrong, did.
There were a lot more things that could have gone wrong, but were successfully avoided.
Battle of Moscow is a BIG one
The battle of Smolensk is more important IMO.
If we are counting battles that were losses but in ways that managed to severely harm the Germans to greater effect, then Sevastopol is a huge one. They slowed the fascist coalition down, wiped out most of Romania's contributions to the front, and required the Germans to dedicate more and more forces just to take a wrecked port. The defense of and around Kerch would not be as long lasting without the attrition fighting there.
Battle of Smolensk is extremely important, because it completely fucked up German timetable for offensive and strained their logistics to the level, that they had to choose whether to bring their troops armaments and ammunition for a new offensive or winter clothes to avoid freezing to death in the winter. As a result, their chances for successfully taking Moscow have already been reduced to minimal.
basically yeah
