Polish people are absolutely discriminated against in some countries, they were the main target of hostility towards migrants around a decade ago in the UK for instance. Not everywhere has an American understanding of whiteness
Even in the US, I remember back in the 80s kids used to crack racist jokes about Poles
but that was white europeans being targeted for their white european nationality. not racism, and to the extent that you can say it WAS racism, it could only be defined that way with the absurd white elite’s constant redefining of who “gets to be white”.
italians are closer to being PoC than Poles and nobody thinks its racist to make fun of italians, because they’re now accepted as white
i by the way, am not “an american”. im iranian and mexican. i just happen to live here because people tend to escape the wrath of the whites by coming here
“polish people are discriminated against in some countries” just gives “i was the only white guy at my school and black people were racist to me”. im not saying they weren’t mean to you, but racist? i dont think so
i also want to point out, 10 out of 10 times someone was being prejudiced towards a pole, if there were an african in the vicinity or an easterner then the pole would have been spared. 9 out of 10 times the pole may have even joined in being racist.
whites dont experience racism. i dont care if theyre polish. you can put words in my mouth to win your little internet argument but im not gonna say whites experience racism lol bye
you’re not beating the cracker allegations
Yea I agree. It’s a confusing musical chairs of terminology going on.
“If poles experience racism, it’s not really racism because they’re white. If they experience racism anyway it’s because they aren’t white.” Not making sense lol. I don’t see the explanatory purpose in hyper specifying racism just to exclude people who visibly appear white even when the character of the situation is extremely similar to any conventional racism. Race is not a purely biologically property of humans - it results from a social phenomenon of racialization - so having light skin does not inherently make someone white. I’m kinda scared to know what that user thinks about the Irish.
I can appreciate their stance with regards to Polish Americans, because they're fundamentally the same as any other white American, but they don't seem to realize a world exists outside the borders of their country where ideas of racism and racism might be different.
eastern europeans are only conditionally white
yeah that’s what i said tho its more that they’re conditionally not white than the other way around
fair. that way around anchors it better.
Whiteness doesn't actually exist, you know? It's a malleable social concept and applies to different groups of people based on the time and place. I don't care if Polish people are considered white in 21st century America. They aren't in a lot of Europe which is what I'm talking about. And they weren't even white in America until relatively recently. I mean millions of Polish people were slaughtered during the first Holocaust for god's sake. You can apply the same hypothetical argument about "if there was a black person around..." to Arabs too, it doesn't mean that there's not a Holocaust going on against Palestinians right now.
