This kind of rhetoric (most of it; Hamas is a resistance organization and much of what they've been accused of has been proven false and Israel is refusing to allow any further independent investigations) is exactly what we've all been saying, and it's Marjorie Taylor Greene saying it?

Have I woken up in an alternate universe? Is the Mandela effect happening?

Literally that first part most especially: trying to explain to people by asking themselves to try putting themselves in the shoes of people from Gaza; it's a sentiment I barely see from pro-Palestinian democrats, but now MTG is saying it? Asking people to think about what it's like if they were going through this?

Also I want to mention, cause it bears mentioning, MTG actually spoke out AGAINST refusing Gazan children to go to America to receive aid.

Seriously, have I woken up in an alternate universe?

Even this obscures her role. The above is not a radical statement. As some have pointed out it’s not particularly incompatible with a moderate Zionist position or some two-state solution lib. Further, who knows how she came to her position. As many have pointed out there are plenty of Nazis who oppose Israel and we’re not going to start praising them as leftists.

Also let’s not forget the context of this statement. Support for Israel is slipping, among the public and on both sides of the aisle in congress. MTG, as she hints at in the statement, was after 10/7 supportive of Israel. She censured Tlaib and has stood in extreme opposition to pro-Palestine protests, calling for failing students who are protesting, defunding universities that allow protests to happen and echoing Stephen Miller’s call to deport “Hamas supporters” aka pro-Palestine protesters. But the cracks are now beginning to show across the political spectrum. This statement is weird and surprising coming from her, but it’s a position come to through complete incoherency and contradictory ideas and no reasoning any of us would identify as “left-wing,” it’s not even particularly radical. Meanwhile we know who MTG is. She serves and has only ever served the purposes of the far right. This statement is notable only in offering proof that support for Israel is declining even among its staunchest defenders.

someone like that outflanking the democrats on the easiest slam-dunk issue ever of "murdering children is bad, actually" just makes democrats look worse.

Yeah I wrote pretty much this same response to someone else but I do agree with you she’s outflanking the core of the Democratic Party which remains staunchly pro-Israel, but a number of democrats have already broken ranks, described the Gaza situation as a genocide, voted against arms sales, etc. MTG’s position is not particularly notable except for the fact that it’s coming from a republican since the core of the Republican Party also remains staunchly pro-Israel. She’s being reported as the “first Republican in Congress to describe Israel’s actions in Gaza as a genocide” since a number of democrats have already done this before her. There are congresspeople in both parties breaking ranks as support for Israel declines, I don’t think MTG’s statement is particularly notable except for the fact that it’s coming from her.
