Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Iran and Israel have struck each other many times over the last few days. There has been a general focus on military facilities and headquarters by both sides, though Israel has also struck oil facilities, civilian structures and hospitals, and in return for this, Iran has struck major scientific centers and the Haifa oil facilities.

Israel appears to have three main aims. First, to collapse the Iranian state, either through shock and breakdown by killing enough senior officials, or via some sort of internal military coup. Second, to try and destroy Iranian nuclear sites and underground missile cities, or at least to paralyze them long enough to achieve the first and third goals. And third, to bring the US into a direct conflict with Iran. This is because the US better equipped to fight them than Israel is (though victory would still not be guaranteed depending on what Iran chooses to do).

Iranian nuclear facilities are hidden deep underground (800 meters), far beyond the depth range of even the most powerful bunker busters (~70 meters or so), and built such that the visible ground entrances are horizontally far away in an unknown direction from the actual underground chambers. Only an extremely competent full-scale American bombing force all simultaneously using multiple of the most powerful conventional (perhaps even nuclear) bunker busters could even hypothetically hope to breach them (and we have seen how, in practice, American bunker busters have largely failed to impair or deter Ansarallah). There are several analysts on both sides who have concluded that it is entirely impossible to physically prevent Iran from building nukes.

I fully expect the US to join the war. I believe the current ambiguity is a deliberate invention of the US while they work to move their military assets into position, and as soon as they are ready, the US will start bombing Iran. After that, Iran's leadership must - if they haven't already - harden their hearts, and strike back with no fear, or risk following the path of Libya, Syria, and Iraq, either into either surrender, occupation, or annihilation. Every day where they do not possess a nuke is a day where lives are being lost and cities are being bombed.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

22 American military tankers have landed at airfields across Europe after simultaneously leaving the U.S. late last night, while three have continued directly towards the Middle East.

•2 in Aviano Air Base, Italy

•11 in Morón Air Base, Spain

•4 in Ramstein Air Base, Germany

•4 in Prestwick, Occupied Scotland

•1 in Tallin, Estonia

~~Will update when we find out where exactly the three still en route to the Middle East land.~~ Remaining three tankers are all following the same flight path over the Aegean Sea toward Crete with no signs of making a descent. I assume we will lose the ability to track these flights in the coming hour or so.

Frankly, I have not seen a more clear sign that a country is preparing to enter a conflict since Russia amassing troops nearish Ukraine pre-SMO. All tankers departed from the United States at nearly the same exact time Sunday night, which is relatively unusual unless an order was issued.

yep, I am 100% certain that the US's current ambiguity about whether they're going to enter the conflict officially is just a ruse until they get things into position, and if we're aware of this, then Iran is certainly aware of it and is hopefully making what preparations they require

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 74 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Hexbear like an hour before the first Israeli attack: huh what are these jets doing in Syria

Iran about the same time: what if all my commanders had a big nap in their apartment blocks

[–] SeventyTwoTrillion@hexbear.net 43 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Israeli intelligence indicated that that was the day and hour of the monthly Iranian official sleepover, and took their shot

[–] newacctidk@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago

Look, it builds comradery

[–] Boise_Idaho@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

Well, you can't lead a war against a genocidal entity without a good night's sleep.

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 45 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Wonder if this is the real reason Iran is saving their expensive hardware. They can strike Israel with the cheap stuff so hold onto the good stuff to retaliate against US positions when the US joins

[–] cinnaa42@hexbear.net 35 points 1 day ago

It's absolutely a consideration for them.

[–] PorkrollPosadist@hexbear.net 29 points 1 day ago

Probably also the reason "nuclear" options like closing the Straight of Hormuz or attacking oil infrastructure of the Gulf monarchies have been reserved.

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 21 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The missiles used to hit US bases in the Middle East and the missiles to hit Israel are completely different weapons with different ranges. Iran probably has a lot more shorter range ballistic missiles than missiles with the range to hit Israel.

[–] Chertstone@hexbear.net 46 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

And people didnt believe when I said that once israel is existentially threatened the us will step in. There is no need for nuking iran.

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 40 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The name comes from the Moors (Moros) who established the Islamic rule of Andalucia

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 43 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

uncritical support to the moróns

[–] Chertstone@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

AKSHUALLY it comes from roman times due to the large local amazigh (mauri) population.

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Morón is often used as a staging ground for middle east operations
