This place is exactly as shitty as Reddit is. Just "decentralized". I have already mentioned this elsewhere. Don't you dare not being part of some circle jerk or to have a slightly unpopular opinion. And no, I'm not talking about LGBT rights nor anything related to it.
Heavy modlog: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/modlog?userId=1101142
Every time x3
See, you're part of the problem, because you likely agree with banning/removing people even for slightly discordant opinions. And about the content removed for racist slur, I didn't have an idea that "Japs" was such a thing (not everybody is from USA, nor a native english speker, you know...). If our cared to read the entire thread, it would have been clear to you.
Congrats for having the time to virtually stalk me, btw.
I speak two languages. I learned pejorative terms fairly early on in my language learning endeavor since i prefer not to offend people with a simple mistake. Maybe you should do the same for english since you seem to be mostly fluent.
I speak 3 languages, for that matters, but let's be real, one can't be aware of each and every slightly offending term on each one of them. I can honestly say that I didn't read about "japs" anywhere and that I just found it amusing when it came to my mind (the thread was about an amusing meme). Anyway, I'll take care from now on.
You do know that it's just 2 clicks to see a user's modlog, right? It's one of the options under the three dots icon on any comment they make
My question is what led the OP to check my modlog. If they are trying to invalidate my opinion, that's not the way.
I've moderated a community on Reddit before and received ban appeals that look like this:
Meanwhile, in the mod log, it's revealed that the banned user didn't say any of that — they actually just used the n-word.
As a result, people are sensitive that some people complaining about mod policies are actually racists that would rather lie than admit the real reason they were banned, even when the actual reason is public knowledge.
Well, not my case. Looks like once I used a pejorative term, just because I found it amusing (without knowing it was a racial slur in some countries). Shit may happen when you're not a native speaker (and sometimes it happens even when you are).
Maybe if you showed any sort of contrition instead of continually providing excuses as to why it's not a problem people would believe it was just a mistake.
Oh, just leave me alone. If you're implying that I'm a racist you are being plainly dishonest. Maybe people should stop pretending to be offended by every little shit (or mistake) on the internet to farm fake karma points by virtue signaling. Goodbye.
I'm not implying anything, I'm telling you why your denial is unbelievable: you haven't said anything to imply you regret being racist, you're just brushing it under the carpet as something you thought was funny. That's not what people who aren't racist say.
What in particular prompts you to reply that to a user? As in, do you have a plug-in or something that indicates the number of mod actions taken against a user? Or do you recognize usernames and follow them around as they reply? The number of mod actions also doesn’t necessarily reflect the character of a user since there are always some unjust mods, and there are some actions which mods can take that aren’t punitive (ex. pinning posts).
Additionally, it comes across as an ad hominem attack.
This is true. My own mod log is marred by a mod that called me a pedo for absolutely no reason. Feel free to check.
Then again, the number isn't necessarily the issue but the contents, right? Which we can also check and judge for ourselves.
It's two clicks from the three dots menus. Helps to at least know who you are dealing with
I understand how to access it. I was meaning more so what sparks your motivation to investigate and/or share your findings?
To keep from weighing in on something in error.
You kinda hey in the habit of at least a cursory mod log check if you spend any time on powertrippingbastards, or the modabuse communities.
A shit ton of people will make claims of being sweet, innocent little users while have a long and nasty history of fucking with people.
So, you learn to either check mod logs, or be willing to take heat for jumping in too quickly.
In this post, OP is essentially saying they were falsely accused of something. The only way to know what the deal is, is mod logs and user history. On the surface it could be just like OP claims, particularly when dealing with .ml since they're known to be trippin.
Turns out, OP is a douchbag and can fuck right off, and the only way to know that is by checking. Blaze is one of those people that, for good or ill, devotes a ton of time and energy into making lemmy a useful and fluid experience. They pretty much always go the extra mile. Some folks are just like that. I'm way too lazy to do it regularly, but I gotta respect the ones that put that effort in
That's the train of thought indeed, thanks
Yes, I personally think that if we want this platform to ever reach 100k monthly active users, we have to demonstrate that this platform is better at dealing with trolls than Reddit. Public modlogs help with that, and using them in that way seems reasonable.
Bummer. And do we actually have some more or less free-to-speak alternatives? I'm not some kind of religious fanatic assembling a nuclear bomb. I just want some reasonable freedom to say what I want. Nothing special.
What do you want to say?
Due to the decentralisation and federation, you can find your "alternative" communities within the fediverse itself, or start new ones
Even the most "crowdy" ones are semi-dead. I don't need internet to talk with myself in the case of "start new ones" :)
Well, I guess, I'll just try to stick with communities with fewer moderators.
