Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

MODERATORS

The proposal would reduce the more than $47 billion budget of the NIH to $27 billion — a roughly 40 percent cut. It would consolidate NIH’s 27 institutes and centers into just eight. Some of its institutes and centers would be eliminated, including the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities and the National Institute of Nursing Research.

There's a lot more horrible stuff in the article.

A Bluesky post

Folding 27 NIH institutes and centers down into 8, which is even worse than the rumored plan for 15, is catastrophic for American biomedical research. Completely insane.

Have any right-wing podcasters or influences, etc come up with a non-insane effort how how this is good from their POV?

Not sure, but I imagine it's the same cope like you mentioned. They'll write it off as good because it's defunding research they consider silly and woke

If Starmer wasn’t a bloody ring-kisser, a Corbyn lead government would be rubbing their hands over free talent.

Hell, even Canada should: you got the Ivy Leagues next door and I had a couple professors from Saskatchewan of all places at OSU, so the brain drain should be seamless.

Maybe - as usual - I credit the right-wing with far too much sanity? Now I can imagine a "moderate" right-wing influencer saying...

"Trump is saving money. Lots of money. And he's killing woke nonsense. This might surprise you but curing cancer is woke if the federal government is involved. Look, it's really, really expensive. So what Trump is doing is not just practical - it's great! Let the free market work on that stuff. Why do we have to pay for it!"
