I'm amazed no one has pointed out the possibility that this was staged by Putin himself as a prerequisite to enforce greater surveillance, military and police presence, claim opposition and Ukraine to be terrorists, and so on. This is, besides a malfunction, much more likely than a failed assassination attempt that went this badly, doesn't have a suspect, and got reported on.

I watched live on reddit while two comments that said basically the same as you were nuked by the admins, not even mods

We can rule out a Ukrainian assassination attempt. They have a pretty good track record of success.

We'll know if it's a false flag if Putin immediately freaks out and increases his personal security or suddenly relocates to one of his bitch bunkers.

They have a pretty good track record of success.

I mean, it wouldn't do to advertise failed attempts. And honestly, even if this was a failed Ukrainian assassination attempt, the fact that they legit blew putin's limo up is kind of huge.

Honestly I though putin already spent 90% of his time in a bitch bunker. Ukraine has already demonstrated the capability of striking Moscow and beyond, long ago, several times over.

I know he has bounced between them (he has multiple) but who knows where he is at any given time.

[–] silverlose@lemm.ee 20 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Why would he need a reason though? Couldn’t he just do that at any time?

[–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

it's easier if there's plausible deniability.

[–] silverlose@lemm.ee 3 points 4 days ago

Maybe. I don’t know what it’s like in Russia at all.

He absolutely could

When has it ever happened in history for a dictator to stage an assassnation or coup attempt on himself? They always sell the image that they are forever beloved and wanted to be in power by everyone.

why would he tell people that the people around him and closest to him dislike him and want him dead? This is the complete opposite of what every dictator fears to unveal. His gaurds are already under heavy paranioa. Now he openly tells everyone it's your chance to take me out because no one likes me?

If he wanted to blame ukraine ,it'd have been a lot cheaper and more believable if he just let a drone hit his palace.

A malfunction of a $300,000 car engine overheating in cold weather is more believable , but realistically no. He's is too old and has dragged his country's economy and people lives to ruins. He is nothing but an ego at this point and does not take many decisions. This is why I'm %100 positive that not much will change in Russia after his death.

Hitler used the burning of the Reichstag as an excuse to clamp down on political dissidence and consolidate his power. It's still not clear whether it was intentionally caused by the Nazis or just a convenient opportunity for them.

He's not an all-powerful FSB god. Just another Gaddafi, always mere hours away from sudden gruesome death.

[–] MrShankles@reddthat.com 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Not a failed assassination, but a warning maybe? His health issues have been in the news lately, his "special operation" is wayyyy over-budget... someone's making him look more vulnerable. Who though??? That's my dumb conspiracy; he's losing power and someone's been waiting to fill that vacuum. Corporate-takeover style? Idk, I'm just riffing

[–] volvoxvsmarla@lemm.ee 3 points 4 days ago

His health issues have been in the news lately

His health issues have been in the news for like two decades. There's always another new article on how he has severe health problems and will die anytime soon. He's been terminally ill and dying since the millennium panic
