Unfortunately Die Linke is traditionally close to Russia. They are also the predecessor of the PDS which is basically a continuation of the SED, the singular government party of the former German Democratic Republic (east germany).

The former GDR is where AfD sprang from. That it's now spreading is not great news. I can't imagine anyone in Hameln wanting a return to that (the rest of Niedersachen, less so), but I've not lived there in 30 years, so I don't exactly have my finger on the pulse of German politics.
