Bottom image is from Generation Kill. That show was fucking amazing. Lauded as one of the most realistic depictions of Marines in the Iraq war and filled with digs at military leadership (like the one in the caption). Won a bunch of awards including Emmys.

Amazing show. I view it as a modern version of Band of Brothers in many ways.

I've heard that series is the most real representation of the the Marine Corps and combat environments in general. It's morbidly hilarious.

Unfortunately, Evan Wright, the author of the book (which was adapted to the show you're talking about) also committed suicide earlier this year. He had quite the career.

That's sad to hear. It seems he had a knack for reporting on hypocrisy and irony. I find that to be rare and much needed.
