I too only think of shit like twitter, tiktok, insta, youtube, etc. to be social media, but drawing the line is difficult. Why aren't forums social media? What are the qualities (or lack thereof) that define social media and those that don't?
With social media, you follow people, not topics and people for some batshit insane reason are willing to use their real name and face. With a forum, or in this case link aggregation platform, you follow topics. There is no real incentive or reason to follow an individual on a forum.
I know none if you cunts IRL and I'm going to keep it that way. My Facebook is full of people I hang out with in the flesh.

That does sounds like a reasonable definition. An in a meme community of all places.
