Octopuses are smart. Also, don't ask me why, but the plural is octopuses and not octopi.

It's not octopi because it's not Latin. It can be octopodes because it comes from Greek. It can also be octopuses because it's English.
Isn't it 'octopodes', and 'octopuses' is considered a valid alternative due to heavy use, or am I stupid?
