EVERYTHING hits poor people the hardest. Any economic change impacts the bottom harder than anyone else.
Small change in gas prices? Looks like I have to walk to work (luckily I can a lot of people can't) Small increase in grocery prices? Looks like I'm living off bread and noodles for the next couple weeks. Rent goes up? Looks like I need to figure out what necessities can be put off. Climate change is just exacerbating these already serious issues.
I've lived like this my whole fuckin life. Completely at the mercy of people who change these prices at a whim knowing it will never affect them.
We're also gonna be the first ones dropping dead from the heat since AC costs money.
Whenever I hear people say "money can't buy happiness," I think they're forgetting that sometimes happiness is just having all your needs met.
It's a lot easier to be happy when you're not constantly choosing between starving and being homeless.
