lol, found the pedant! Entirely fair though, the title was more of a mood than factual.

Not really pedantry when it's associated with a specific region of the US.

If you grew up in the Northeast or west coast you've likely never seen a waffle house.

I was gonna say... I grew up in CA. My first time eating Waffle House was in my 20's on a trip to Florida with my college lacrosse team. It was across the street from the hotel, and was and still open when we stumbled in after a night of drinking. 10/10. Would recommend to drunk people.

Would recommend to drunk people

You have stumbled upon the gist of its appeal.

[–] queue@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Mainly since I wanna try Waffle House but it isn't in my state, or the next state, or the state next to that one.

[–] ImpossibilityBox@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It is simultaneously worth it and a complete letdown. Honestly the worse one you can find the better. We were the only ones there and hijacked the jukebox playing the worst songs we could find. we tipped well.

[–] Kase@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Hell yeah. I live near a waffle house, and the jukebox is my favorite part. Last time I went my friends and I were also the only ones there, it was super fun. The staff were super chill. A great vibe imho.

I lived in NW Atlanta near an intersection with Waffle Houses on two opposite corners. Glorious.

Sometimes I complain about the US, but then I hear heartwarming stories like this. And you know what? Fuck yes to catercorner Waffle Houses!

[–] somethingsnappy@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Drove from Baltimore to Atlanta. If my memory serves correct there were 37 visible from the highway. Moved out of Maryland and have never seen one since outside of a meme.

[–] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

You must have moved to the west coast then. Certainly didn't move anywhere near Atlanta if you're not seeing Waffle Houses.

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 10 months ago

Once you’re north of Maryland, Dunkin Donuts takes over. I didn’t know what Waffle House was until visiting an in-law in VA in my 20s. Grew up in the upper Midwest and New England.

My nearest is two states away

And on super early, calm Saturday mornings you can probably still hear the bullets whizzing by from the nearest one...

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world -3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

At least it makes it easy to find the people worth blocking.

[–] queue@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 10 months ago

Sorry that I wanted to enjoy a restaurant.

Not really pedantic, just pointing out you're wrong...

Born and raised in an area with no Waffle House for hundreds of miles. I think I would have to go out of state and drive for several hours before coming close to one. They're not everywhere in the US.
