Competing to be one of the "good ones"

It would need to be a Constitutional amendment unless the Supreme Court "reconsiders" precedent on this exact issue.

The executive order, like most others, is completely illegal, but when authoritarians control all the levers of power and have military on the streets of DC and the DC police answers to them, then who's going to stop them?

Yes, piss off judges. That's a winning strategy.

Indiana is 7-2 Republican. Indiana has a very safe Democratic seat in Indianapolis. They can probably pick up one seat here.

Missouri is 6-2. The state is already gerrymandered as well, with very safe Kansas City and St. Louis seats. They can probably dilute Kansas City enough to pick up one seat as well.

Meanwhile, New York is 19-7 Democrat. Colorado is 4-4.

There are 15 states with complete Democratic state control, 11 of which have Republican seats.

Meanwhile, there are 23 Republican-controlled states, but only 12 of those have Democratic seats. In almost every case, those are just one seat because the rest of the state is already gerrymandered as much as possible. I haven't looked through them all, but those seats are probably packed already and therefore safe.

It's theoretically possible for them to pick up some seats from Georgia, Florida, and Ohio, but that would probably leave many of those Republican seats vulnerable with a thin margin.

If Democrats take control of the Minnesota assembly, you could see opportunities there.

Democrats are favored to take control of Virginia, which could have several more opportunities.

I'm saying this is a fight Republicans will likely regret starting.

They're just temporarily suspended until Aug 29. They don't want in-flight packages to arrive without duty paid and have to be returned. When they resume delivery, all new packages will have duty collected at the time of sending.

That said, it'll kill overseas direct to consumer businesses aimed at the US. No one wants to pay $80-200 per package for packages valued under $800.

Take your self righteousness elsewhere. I didn't vote to harm them. Their voters did. If you want to blame someone, blame them. I'm pro-hospitals (as if I need to say it) and Medicare for all, but elections have consequences and this is one.

It's a rural town, which means mostly Republicans.

I hope they all suddenly have an epiphany, take up an interest in current affairs, and vote against Republicans.

I expect they will blame Democrats.

You can't fix ignorance and apathy unless the people want to fix it themselves.

Strike that. Just keep moving hospitals farther and farther away, and the problem will eventually resolve itself.

accusing Donald Trump of "socialism"

Ah, a cause that Republican and Democratic politicians alike can get behind

The justification is by city, so let's use cities. And that list is here.

If we look at just murder rate from 2024 per 100,000 people:

  1. Birmingham, AL - 58.85
  2. St. Louis, MO - 54.09
  3. Memphis, TN - 40.61
  4. Baltimore, MD - 34.77
  5. Detroit, MI - 31.17
  6. Cleveland, OH - 30.05
  7. Dayton, OH - 29.66
  8. Kansas City, MO - 27.56
  9. Shreveport, LA - 26.84
  10. Washington, DC - 25.49 ... \ 22. Chicago, IL - 17.47 (just under Little Rock, AR) \ 127. New York, NY - 3.92 (just under Omaha, NE)

Now, you could make the argument that DC and Baltimore are part of one metropolitan area, but no matter how you slice it, the next city on the illegal military occupation list would be Birmingham.

I mean, the Paris treaty formally ended the war, it's just that Germany wasn't a signatory to it. Turns out if you kill enough Nazis, it doesn't really matter if one signs your treaty or not.

Guys, what should we do? The guy who lives in a country with a massive social safety net and center left politicians who support labor protections said we're a joke. Even though he has risked nothing and only has the barest inkling of what life must be like in America right now, I'm worried about his stinging criticism
