America and the USSR agreed to partition Korea along the 38th parallel after liberating it from imperial Japanese rule.

Your protratal of the US deciding on a whim to butcher the poor north Koreans then impose a separation on them...

Not afraid of straight up contradictions are you. Did the US impose separation or not? Koreans never agreed to that
