This is a case where it seems the elite consensus drove a change in culture whereas the gay marriage thing seems to have only happened once it became a norm across society.

What's the context?

This argument is pointless. Neither of you is right. Arguing for or against optics is pointless.

I don't think you can use gpl for anything but code. Creative commons license would be more appropriate.

Consent isn't legally required if it's fair use. Whether it's fair use remains to be ruled on by the courts.

And it seems to be broken again this morning.

The thing is I use reddit mostly for fun stuff. I took out a lot of the political stuff that was getting me down. There's not nearly as many niche cute cat subs or active hobbyist game subs on lemmy.

I've been on lemmy like 2 years. I like it but I wouldn't say I've gotten used to it.

I like lemmy but reddit is still difficult to replace due to lack of content and active communities. But I ain't using the official app so I guess here we are.

This isn't quite true. Physical medicine also has many diseases that are just grouped together symptoms with unknown etiology. They are referred to as syndromes: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syndrome

"advanced users" on forums are rarely very representive of users as a whole.

I know there is mobilzon but mobilzon is a meetup.com clone whereas evite is different.

Evite you can create an event and invite people via email or send them a link. They can rsvp and add it to their calendars.

Come of these features are covered by mobilzon but not quite. Evite doesn't require you make a group or add people to the group as members. It's a little more atomic. Honestly I think it's a good deal more flexible than the meetup/mobilzon design pattern.

About 10 months ago I posted this thread saying that it would be useful for the fediverse to consider post once, share everywhere paradigms: https://lemmy.ml/post/641509

And now we have The Verge writers saying similar things: https://www.theverge.com/2023/10/23/23928550/posse-posting-activitypub-standard-twitter-tumblr-mastodon

Maybe worth re-considering.

I just realized that lemmy doesn't have karma like reddit. I've never paid much attention to karma. But even so it does seem to play an important role in moderation on reddit.

For instance, many subs put a karma restriction on who can post which helps decrease trolls.

And while it's true that karma gives an incentive for people to seek karma I think it's overall regulatory principle might be worth considering as a trade off.
