The article explains that they use the bacteria to basically break down the plastic into two solutions, which they ultimately recombine into plastic—seemingly out of lack of any other practical use for the results.

I’m not a scientist, I don’t know what could be a better use for the results of the bacteria doing their job. And seemingly, neither do the scientists, but it’s still a very young project in the grand scheme of things.

Since 2021, a French company named Carbios has been running an operation that uses a bacterial enzyme to process about 250kg of PET plastic waste every day, breaking it down into its precursor molecules, which can then be made directly into new plastic. It’s not quite composting it back into the earth itself, but Carbios has achieved the holy grail of plastic recycling, bringing it much closer to an infinitely recyclable material like glass or aluminium.

That’s a significant step forward from when the last time I read up on the plastic eating bacteria. Granted, I’d prefer it if it was recycled into something other than more plastic… but I’ll still take it.

Megalovania intensifies.

She’s not technically a star, so I’m under the impression there’s a limit to how many episodes she can appear in per season.

While governments can't directly manipulate Lemmy, you should still operate on the assumption that nothing you do here is anonymous.

It’s worth noting that the CNN article doesn’t say what happens if your taxes for the year are lower than the incentive.

I assume you get the full incentive at the dealership, and then are responsible for the difference come tax day.

So if your taxes are… say $4,000 and you buy a new car with the $7,500 rebate. That’s a difference of $3,500 and your taxes become 4K + 3.5K = $7,500 for that year… or so I’m assuming.

I always headcanoned that Rom was very quickly fired after DS9… but I have to admit this episode did an excellent job conveying that with Leeta at his side, he’s got quite good job security. … and wasn’t that the Sense-Ores admiral?

I liked catching up with Marinier’s Ferengi friend from back in S1. Kinda wish they did a little bit more with that plot.

I tend to feel awkward when I see characters acting awkward… to that extent I had a little trouble getting through Tendi and Rutherford’s story. I like them more when they get to be big nerds—which we admittedly had quite a bit of this episode.

Beyond that… I find it interesting that the Parlament class now has a CGI model. Lower Decks traditionally saves the CGI budget for ships that get into combat or major fan service. The Parlament vessel doesn’t really qualify for either in this episode. I wonder if it’s going to be a casualty of the mystery ship later in the season.

Also, did I hear right that the Ferengi Lower Decker was in communication with the mysterious vessel?

Just watched the video… it seems like it's asking for Prodigy without acknowledging its existence. 😕

What actually happened here!?

This one was actually funny?

Curious about Boimler looking sad at that padd. My gut guess was it had something to do with Will, but he already thinks he’s dead so….?

The fall was published after Nemesis, and the rules on novels were changed from being self contained to interconnected, and they abandoned the numbered novel system.

Instead of rare bursts of continuity, you get random bursts of discontinuity, as the authors have different opinions on how to portray shared OCs, or takes on an event or its significance.

The numbered books tend to only have anything resembling continuity if the same author is involved. Peter David and John Vornholt come immediately to mind as ones to do that.

A Stitch in Time (By Garak’s actor) also gets referenced, but that book is an extra special case in the franchise.

Outside of the authors referencing their own work, sometimes New Frontier gets referenced: mostly in the form of Zak Kebron (The BEST character to ever happen to Trek) being Worf’s old academy roommate, or in the form of a major disaster hitting the entire quadrant and you get little cuts to various ships…

But never anything of substance.
