What's the hardest part of being out as trans, other than the obvious transphobes? The subtle stuff most people don't think about, I mean.

Only the purest bloodlines. Bloodlines so pure that they couldn't find a spec of unpure blood in Uncle Daddy during his last battery of genetic testing to determine why we all have blue skin and an allergy to calcium.

Capitalism.

I just made an account on literature.cafe last night. :) Haven't gotten around to logging in and doing anything yet, but I like having a couple alts to see unique local feeds and such, and yours looked so interesting! I love how federation allows for those kinds of interest-specific instances. Can't wait to explore yours. :)

I have Jerboa, sync, connect, summit, and liftoff. Each is logged into a different account on a different instance. I like being to scroll through local timelines. On Reddit, I had several different accounts I used for different interests. Lemmy isn't quite big enough for that yet, but different local timelines are interesting, and allow me something to do when one has down time.

I was a prolific reader as a kid. Homeschooled, single mom who worked, so I would spend sometimes 6 or 7 hours a day at the library while she was at work. Once I went through the entire kids section, the librarian caught me in the adult section and I thought I'd be in trouble. Instead she showed me this collection of fairy tales that were dark and when my mom came to pick me up, she explained I'd been through everything and asked my mom to sign consent for an adult library card. Which she did, because my mom rocks. Lol. Only book she wouldn't let me read was the color purple when I was 10. Had to wait a bit for that. Lol.

Worked security at a factory that made kitchen appliances. It wasn't his first day, but it was his first shift by himself.

There's a gate at the front that you lock when you go on rounds.

Dude chooses to go on a round 5 minutes before shift change for the factory workers. He gets a call on company cell that folks are at the gate. Instead of coming back, he tells them to wait 20 minutes so he can finish his round.

20 minutes where they won't be getting paid.

Second in command big boss of the factory is out there checking IDs and directing traffic when dude gets back from his round. Now this dude is nice. Genuinely one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Old union rep, shirt off his back type. Tells guard not to worry about it, all's good. Just time his rounds better next time.

Guard starts screaming at him about how he had no right to undo the lock, to get out of here, he'll handle them, and if he wants to make them wait that's his right. Boss man tells him to chill out, he won't get in trouble, just go do his log and then he can take over checking IDs.

Guard pulls out, in one hand, a mag light flashlight he was told not to have, and in the other chemical spray that's illegal for a guard to carry without certs (which he didn't have), and this is an unarmed site. Threatens to ""arrest"" him. When boss pulls out his cell to call the guard company, the guard sprayed him and knocked his cell onto the ground, and kicked it across the parking lot, breaking it.

Needless to say, he was fired. Boss didn't press assault charges, but we nearly lost the contract.

As PugJesus said. The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. As best as I can recall, it's about two kids, Billy and Mandy, and somehow they have the Grim Reaper living with them. I think he has to do their bidding, but I don't entirely remember. Awesome show.

I haven't watched that episode in a looooong time, so I can't really contribute too much to the conversation. But the vibe I got (and I may be misremembering) was that Sisko was trying to let her know she could be that person, if she wanted to be. She could be Fenna, because she was Fenna. A sort of "the [Fenna] was in you all along" type moment.

I'm mainly posting here because DS9 is my absolute favorite series (close second is ENT), and I'll happily contribute to any ds9 talks. Lol. Is there a community for ds9? I haven't found out, but that could just be lemmy search shenanigans.

I completely forgot this show ever existed, and I'm pretty sure I watched every episode when I was a kid. Major "Memory: unlocked" moment for me here.

Honestly, that sounds like my ideal show. I've always wanted a show that gave us something outside of Starfleet, and I've also always wanted a show that showed us a little more of earth (cannot wait for a sf academy). A freighter based show could us both. Frequent trips to earth to pick up supplies, space without the protection of the military's flagship, or the protection of being an important military space station. Tight knit crew, likely family members and all the drama and story that comes with that. God, that would be an awesome show.
