I mean, the US embargo has been going on for over 60 years...
And for over 30 the UN has been trying to end it...
Only the US and Israel are against it. Because we back their genocides and hateful treatment of their neighbors too.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_embargo_against_Cuba
There's never been a logical reason for the US embargo. So yeah, I kind of get the Cuban government blaming the US as a kneejerk reaction. And I don't believe anything my own government says about Cuba.
That's not even getting into the legal shit show that is Gitmo
Cuba has normal trade relations with pretty much the entire rest of the world, correct? And yet:
Cuba is in the grip of an economic slump, worsened by soaring inflation and the sense of an increasing divide between rich and poor. The state-run bodegas where Cubans traditionally receive their rations of staples such as rice, beans, salt, sugar, coffee and, crucially, baby milk, are increasingly empty. Meanwhile, small shops have popped up across the island after small and medium-sized private enterprises were allowed to open in an effort to ease the shortages.
But with state salaries now as low as $10 a month when measured against black market currency rates, products in these private stores are far beyond the reach of anyone without access to money from abroad or hard currency from jobs in tourism and business.
Rather than take an ounce of responsibility for this reality, Cuba's government responds:
Díaz-Canel blamed Sunday’s protests on “enemies of the revolution”, “mediocre politicians” and “terrorists” in south Florida.
I don't support the embargo at all, but also blaming "terrorists" in the US for what is very clearly internal dysfunction is blatant propaganda. You wouldn't hesitate to call out the US government if they did this, what is your agenda that you're fine with Cuban propaganda?
Do you often find yourself disagreeing with the UN and agreeing with Israel about what is acceptable treatment for innocent bystanders because of the country they were born in?
Or is Cuba just a one off thing?
I don't support the embargo at all
Do you often find yourself not reading the words you're replying to? I'd repeat your "one off" question back to you mockingly, but I know from observation this is not a one off for you. Try reading what I said above again and responding to the content.
If you don't believe the US has been fucking with Cuba for over 60 years because we're capitalist and theyre not...
Well. I might have tried to explain, but when you act like that, who would want to keep engaging with you?
And let's be honest, it seems like a safe bet that it would take a lot of replies to explain anything to you, let alone global politics going back over half a century.
Have a nice life bud, I legitimately hope it gets better for you
If you don't believe the US has been fucking with Cuba for over 60 years because we're capitalist and theyre not...
Where did I say this?! I'm well aware of the awful things the US has done to Cuba. It's like you're arguing against something you made up. Instead of taking on an argument head-on, it's like you built some sort of man made of straw to fight instead
Starving people would never protest! This must be Amerikkkas doing.
Cuba is insane, tragic the people there suffer as they do. I’ll never understand how the United States can let a country so close to home fall into an absolute communist dictatorship, but then worry about what goes on a world away. Seems hypocritical. Having spoke to people from Cuba over video chat a couple of times in my life the government over there is very repressive. There is no sense of freedom, the government will seize your house in a heartbeat if they see value in it or some corrupt official just wants it for some reason. They even have an ongoing joke amongst the people that the Castro family makes love to cars because of how they overly regulate cows
