Spotify has blocked users on the free plan from tapping the previous button to restart the track or play songs in any order — without a subscription.

Extreme enshittification

I was surprised when I learned I couldn't anymore decide from which portion to hear a song.

I gave up on Spotify years ago.

Now I get most of my music on bandcamp, although I understand why that wouldn't be for everyone.

I personally prefer ViMusic or just downloading my music. Spotify also censors a lot of songs.

I think if the lyrics are controversial enough they might be censored. If I recall the song Aarson by City Morgue is censored. That might be on the publisher though rather than Spotify because it seems pretty sporadic

Hmm is this different than having an explicit and non-explicit version of a song? Most of the time Spotify actually puts the non-explicit versions in their Release Radar/Discover Weekly playlists. At least for me.

I believe all they have is the non-explicit version.

Then you might be correct in this being a publisher thing.

I was trying out spotube, is InnerTune any better?

Damn right when the premium plan is going up (at least in my country)

Anyone who uses this service deserves to get taken advantage of accordingly.
