Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Femboys=/=twinks tho. Also, most older iterations of him are more otter than anything. Also also, dont call children twinks, otters, or femboys. It's weird.

[–] 2FortGaming@lemmy.world 7 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Not all versions of link have him aged as a kid, so we can use our own adult brains and assume this one isn't either. Plus, I got called a twink all the time in highschool bro, chill out it's just a meme lol

You know, I never thought about how old Link and Zelda are in the games. Never really had a need, of course, but in some games it's made obvious (literally switching between child link and adult link), I'm not sure if it's explicitly stated for wind waker but just look at him... But then, in BotW there's implications of past romance, and this being the last Zelda game I played might have primed me to not think of Link as a kid.

[–] JandroDelSol@lemmy.world 6 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

BotW has Zelda turn 17, so link is probably around that age as well

[–] MeatPilot@sh.itjust.works 5 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Would be creepy if he was 40 and just doing all this to groom her when she turns 18.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago

That's the Tingle timeline.

Wind Waker begins with grandma giving you your tunic for your twelfth birthday. :3

Looking at box art and other artwork Link always seems to be a preteen or teenager (12-14) in most games. Plenty of games have him smaller then all the adult NPCs and it makes sense considering classical fairy tales usually star children. I don't remember most of Zelda's inspirations right now but Miyamoto was inspired by how he used to explore the countryside as a child. I

The only "adult" versions of link are the ones in , OOt, TP, SS* and the wild games (and the non cannon warrior versions).

However, I think it's easier to sell Link as an action hero when he's a more serious looking adult and post WWs backlash Nintendo seems to be purposely focusing on adult links.

I also think link was also purposely designed to be androgynous so that girls could also connect to him but I may be misremembering the exact quote. Link is also a hylian and hylian designs tend to be very elvish which could help explain why even the more adult versions don't have any facial hair. Elves tend to be more "twinkish" to contrast with regular humans and dwarfs in most fictional settings.

* This needs a better abbreviation

he's 17 and a half in skyward sword

I don't think Link has ever been depicted as having any body hair, so he can't really be an otter. Also twink has evolved beyond its usage in gay culture. These days it's more of a general term that implies vague queerness more than explicit cis male homosexuality. We don't really know if Link is a femboy, trans femme, trans masc, or what, but he's definitely a twink under the modern sexuality agnostic usage.

No, that's not what twink means.

[–] applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Why don't you list the definition you're operating under so we can skip the talking past each other argument. I was saying twink in it's modern usage is more of a vibe than strict "gay cis male early twenties with low body hair and body fat". I wasn't saying that sentence is the entire definition of twink, so you're right that's not what twink means.

[–] abbotsbury@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago

Twink is slim and smooth, you're conflating connotation with denotation.

[–] heavy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 8 hours ago

I think it's okay for the joke, not that I speak for everyone, but I think we have bigger things to be mad at.

Serious time: it was never a very good theory. There are clearly dialog options where they zoom over Link expressing complex ideas to someone he just met. Unless you want to assume into existence a sign language that everyone in Hyrule knows, Link can talk just like anyone else.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 8 points 8 hours ago

The meta reason is that the player is supposed to supply Link's dialog, since he's just the player avatar. Your "link" to the game world.
