Well actually, 6 x 7 is the question. At least in one of the later HGTG books when they rebuild earth it's alluded to that this was the question all along.

Shh! Every time the question and answer is known at the same time, the universe is replaced by an even more baffling one!

This has, of course, happened several times before. As evidenced by gestures at everything

No, the question is 6 * 9. The implication is that something is fundamentally wrong with the universe since that doesn't add up.

Of course it doesn't. It's a multiplication.

I always believed that that was because the earth was corrupted (with the time travel stuff for example when the phone polishers ended up on earth) and arthurs brain contained a slightly altered question.

Edit maybe I'm just dumb and didn't get your finesse.

In maths, writing "a b" is the same as "a * b". Following that logic, writing "6 7" (instead of "67") would also be equivalent to "6 * 7".

I haven't heard the song that was the origin of 6 7, but afaik they say it as "six seven", not "sixty-seven".

OP, surely that was a typo. There is only one Deep Thought.
