Do you even need to ask someone with a Vegeta profile picture? Of course they're racist.

[–] morphballganon@mtgzone.com 9 points 3 days ago (2 children)

As someone who hasn't watched DBZ, I know Vegeta is hideous, but had no idea he was racist.

He might've chilled out a bit now, but he basically started as a saiyan supremacist.

Tbf, they are better. Real big of Vegeta to realize that doesn't stop humans from being people.

What the fuck bro.

I mean, maybe he's racist in the woke, "I acknowledge that I was raised in a racist society, and everyone raised in a racist society is inevitably a little bit racist" sort of way. The quote from Jesse Jackson illustrates this:

“There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps... then turn around and see somebody white and feel relieved.”

All the anime I like outside of a couple were seemingly written for little/teenage girls. I mean, the two genres I like most are Slice of Life and Shouju.

I don't like the big robot animes. I don't like drama, period, anime or not. I definitely do not like all the anime that seems to just be the fantasies of a 14 year old boy other than JoJo, which I am almost positive is done on purpose to make fun of other anime that does it seriously. I mean all those goofy poses the dudes make were the creator applying female model poses to male characters.

Tbf isn't most anime either a TV show for middleschoolers or an ad for the book anyways?

Hilariously, only the racist anime fan could or would make this statement

[–] morphballganon@mtgzone.com 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

More precisely, only an anime fan that identified as a non-pedophile racist. Perhaps they are a pedophile but deny it.

(I am a manga enjoyer)

If I have to choose b/w these 3, i think first is least problematic, so yeah, I must be racist

[–] chatokun@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I won't define myself on the ideas of a self identified racist. Many people like that assume everyone is like them and just lying to themselves or trying to virtue signal.

Though, like Avenue Q joked, it's very easy to have some ingrained racist views, and it takes work and introspection to resist it.

(my comment was mostly joke-y bit)

it’s very easy to have some ingrained racist views

I think part of the reason is that it is at least one part natural pattern recognition. I am from a "diverse" country and more than races, I mostly have region specific biases, of which, we have about 30 to pick from. So yeah, It is big pool to choose from. Naturally living in a diverse nation meant I never looked at people from races being inferior or superior. But at the same time, since I am from a particular region, and since your nature heavily depends on your surrounding, i have region specific things, and I am "region-ist". Like I do go "people from this religion are very loud" or "timid" or "stupid". But at the same time, my natural speech is not that harsh, and so even if i have regional preconcieved notions, I am not often hurtful to others.

I know, I wasn't so much chastising you but more just speaking my mind. I was worried about being too serious in a joke context.

And yeah, the basic patern recognition parts of our brain does make it easy to have prejudices, and makes it harder to not knee-jerk react. (Also forgot to mention I'm also a manga enjoyer. Reading at my own pace is much easier than watching shows that define the pace).

Fair enough

[–] Sunsofold@lemmings.world 8 points 2 days ago

Option 1, admit you were wrong. Option 2, claim to be a part of a group hated by anti-racists Option 3, claim to be a part of one of the most hated groups in the world Option 4, 2 and also 3

Somehow they still preferred 2 over 1

l am neither a racist nor a pedophile, in fact I never reccomend shows such as monogatari because the child romance ruins the whole thing for me, but I grew up in an era where sexuality, blood, and violence were the main themes of anime and not something shown anywhere else on television or movies. I think I'm an anime fan for the same reason I'm a fan of comic books, because it's one of the last forms of art and media free from overreaching censorship.
