Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

If you pronounce the X how it is in Chinese you get what essentially sounds like shitter

Just wait until they find out that “tweets” became “excretions”

Works better if you think in Spanish or Portuguese

A word that starts with X in those languages will have the "sh" sound, so "Xit" will sound exactly like you'd expect to hear "shit", without having to worry about whether the letters are representing the sound decently. I mean, pinyin fucking sucks, who the fuck thought that a good stand in for "j" or "dj" sound would be "zh"? Or that C alone is a good representation of "tz" sound??

Yeah that's fair,

Yes :D

I love the ingenuity of that flip. He wanted it to sound cool; new name seemed to be invulnerable to mockery. But in the confusion following the change the boot licking news-places started making sure that no one mixes up the new name - "X, former Twitter". Which shortens up just too perfect. If not for that, calling it Xitter would feel a little bit too much. But with that mouthful being banged on everywhere, it all just fell together perfectly

What? It's just "X + twitter = xitter", isn't it?

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, but the x in Chinese is sh

So people calling it xitter is shitter

I don't know if it was intentional or not but it's funny

Intentional, though you're the first person I've seen link it to Mandarin.

I know nothing about the Chinese language but I knew it was pronounced Shitter. Maybe because I know how Xi is pronounced, but I think maybe more how Xmas is Christmas.
